make-believe: date night.

August 19, 2014
datenightThree days before Faye was born, James and I were at my sister Cait’s apartment for dinner. We ate spicy Indian food and everyone made guesses about when the baby would make his or her debut. We decided to turn the guessing into a bet; whoever guessed closest to the actual birthday would get a date night, babysitting provided by the other sister (or her husband). Being an older sister with a knack for this sort of thing, Cait guessed Faye’s birthday exactly: May 26.

We still owe her a night of babysitting, but I can’t help thinking about having our own little night out, just me and James, with Faye safe in the arms of a nearby auntie. The date wouldn’t be anything too fancy, just special enough to be different than business as usual. Margaritas and tacos under the Brooklyn Bridge sounds pretty good to me.

I’d wear this:

1. A pair of perfect off-white jeans because in my dreams I never spill my salsa. 2. A silky black tank like this (alas, sold out) or this. Because every mama needs something sexy and comfortable. 3. A little something scandaleux to keep things interesting. 4. signature scent. 5. Simple brass studs 6. A little black bag to sling over my shoulder and tuck in extra cash for ice cream. 7. A swipe or three of mascara. (Have you guys tried this one yet? I’ve heard good things!)

Other games of make-believe.

Looks lovely. And yes, sometimes a night out, just the two of you, is heavenly. And much needed AND deserved. (I am preaching to myself as well: we do that way too little ourselves).

I use a lot of 100% Pure makeup and skin care – it's a great line! I really enjoy the mascaras, too!

I have that mascara and I LOVE it, it doesn't hurt that it smells like chocolate when you put it on. It doesn't clump strange, or flake, I have been super happy with it.
