i mentioned before that james and i spent my birthday on lake waccamaw, about a 45 minute drive from wilmington in a place that feels like it’s a world away. here, a few pictures. and a link to one of my all-time favorite essays by e.b. white, once more to the lake. if you haven’t read it, take a moment on a sunday afternoon to indulge. i think you’ll like it.

love the dragonfly. they say whenever you see them they are good luck, whether that is true or not, i love seeing them. they make me happy!
What a great essay. I love your pictures and blog also! Such a good pick-me-up.
Wish I was at my favorite lake, Lake Powell where I grew up close to. Enjoy your lake day!
thanks! and oooh summer = watermelon
mmm a wonderful essay to read on a lazy afternoon.
I love the picture of the lily pads. 🙂
Thanks.
simple pleasures. the dragonfly is precious. looking forward to reading the essay. thanks.
Happy birthday and I LOVE that hat. Reminds me of the Helen Kamanski hats I coveted as an older teen. Saw one in an op shop the other day and pounced, but I have a small hat and all my life have spent time chasing hats that have blown from my head. Love hats but sadly they don't love me.
Thanks for the comment on the Maiden Threads outfit. It's a cute tee isn't it?
I can understand why Once More to the Lake is one of your favorite essays. I really enjoyed reading it. Thank you.
Love the visual notes of your day, great pattern on your throw/blanket, Dawn

Those watermelon photos are priceless! I love gnawing on fresh watermelon on a hot day.
your hat is fabulous. and that watermelon is making me hungry. jealous on both counts! 🙂
those watermelon photos are hilarious! I am not a fan of melon, but those almost make me want to bite into a huge slice (or, better called, wedge?) just like that!
