5. this scene.snowy_window_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_4627{because green inside and snowy outside is the way winter’s supposed to look around here.}

I read that article about Amanda Chantal Bacon and actually laughed out loud. I think I understood every other food? Good for her…definitely not for me 😉

So fascinating! Would be lying if I didn’t say I now want all the bee pollen!

I was in awe reading her day. It sounds like most of her day is planning/preparing/consuming her constant snacks! Way too much work for me. And as for her son, I don’t know how old he is, but he is in for a culture shock when he gets older and exposed to his friends and their food. Entertaining to read though! I agree with you on the bee pollen!

Oh, I know, it does kind of sound like that. But that’s also the nature of this kind of article: reduce a woman’s day down to her food choices and then mock her for it! Oy. Definitely not meaning to deride her! Just fascinated by all of it!

I’m not sure which is more entertaining, Amanda Chantal Bacon’s diet or the comments on the article.

For what it’s worth – our bee pollen doesn’t taste like candy at all – blegh. It also hasn’t done what I hoped it would, which is help mitigate my husband’s terrible allergies. I love that OKReal interview, you are so right about the research competition with all things baby! I’m pregnant with our first baby and am feeling guilty about just wanting the most basic and least ugly (and safe of course) car seat, stroller etc. How different can they all be?!?! (And I really appreciate your baby proof series! it’s been so helpful! We aren’t city dwellers so will need the car seat and probably a stroller but otherwise it’s been an inspiration to cut out so many of the “must-haves.”

Ha! I’ve definitely had some yummy bee pollen in the past, but I’m not a regular buyer! For allergies, I swear by nettle (alert: unsolicited advice). Definitely not super tasty, but in high doses (capsules work best for me), I’ve had nice luck! Otherwise, so glad you enjoyed the interview!

Just read your interview, after reading one or other interview of you here and there I just say this was the most inspiring. I had just come back from a walk in the and the ocean and sat down by the door at home watching the sunset and the birds flying. May sound idylic but I was actually thinking and reflecting on difficult life choices made lately. Then I read your interview. I’ve been chosing simple because it’s what I really need right now. Somehow for no reason I was questioning myself. Loved your interview, very inspiring. Also agree hundred per cent with you on courage, and how it means different things to all of us. Thank you.

Just noticed there’s another Kari commenting here, so I’ll have to be KariM. As for Amanda Bacon’s food choices, I prefer the advice of Michael Pollan. “Eat food. Not to much. Mostly plants.” Everything else is too obsessive. His book, In Defense of Food, is all anyone needs. Sorry, not trying to be negative, but it’s the same as you were saying about baby gear. We need to pick the best, simple choice and move on.

On another note, I just wanted to tell you that yours is the best book on simplifying I’ve ever read. And I’ve read them all.

Hi Kari M! Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes: agreed, of course, on the food front! (I quote the very same Pollan-ism in my chapter on the subject!)

    Erin,
Absolutely loved your book. You are doing something very special.
Actually, here in Toronto, I couldn’t get it from the library – so many holds!

Taking the leap and leaving my first comment! I’m a long time reader and unsure why I’m just now commenting. But that being said, we love Beck’s ‘Sea Change’ for our sleeping bean. That is actually one of my favorite albums of his despite its deviation from his typical style! We also love Explosions in the Sky.

But what I really want to say is thank you. For the interview on OKREAL, for sharing your life and thoughts in a public space, and for inspiring me (and my family) to be courageous enough to make changes that will create the life we want – a simple life full of family, a tiny home on a homestead, an unplugged childhood for our son. We are beginning to understand that for us, realizing our dreams means letting go of the ‘American Dream’ and creating something uniquely ours. It’s too fresh and too nebulous to pin down just yet, but know that following your blog all these years has consistently pulled me back towards that simplicity that I truly desire.

(Belated) congratulations on your book! I cannot wait to read it myself. Sending so much love your way.

The OKReal Interview was great. It gave wonderful insight into your perspective as an individual apart from the blog. I agree with you on all fronts – motherhood is VERY courageous and one of the biggest battles is paring down the emotion/material/work clutter that always seems get in the way of just enjoying what we have. Thank you.

I purchased your book last week Erin and devoured it in two sittings. Thank you and we’ll done! Your advice is honest and easy to comprehend which already lends more weight to your ethos and the ease with which we people “trying to slim it down” can maintain that goal. It feels reachable. Attainable. Human.
Sometimes the advice we read actually complicates the issue even more. So nice to have tips and truths that are straight to the point and practical. As for the article about Amanda Bacon – wowsers! I say whatever makes you happy and who wouldn’t want to eat “moon food” but I think I’ll have to stick wih casting magic spells on my sprouts before I eat them 🙂

OKREAL interview was sensible and terrific. I always love the “week in objects” as I think it really does speak to your appreciation of simple pleasures. You were more diplomatic than I would have been to be “stunned/impressed.” I think I would have been more “incredulous/mystified.” That said, I always appreciate those who practice what they preach!
