five little things that made my week:
1. these antlers.
{because toddlers in antlers are almost as good as grandpas in antlers.}
2. this hamentaschen.
{and the others i devoured this week.}
3. this sack of presents.
{because focusing on small gifts of self care this year means it smells real good.}
4. these new heels on old boots.
{for getting me through another winter.}
5. this tree.
{cause it’s made these dark days feel so much brighter.}
other things:
the trouble with happy holidays.
the original christmas tree stands.
ps. i’ll be taking a little break from this space to celebrate the holidays with my family. looking forward to sharing more in the new year.

Merry Christmas Erin, Faye and James! Enjoy the break and the ensuing festivities!
Thanks for this one, Erin. Reading your stuff is so calming and refreshing, especially during this time of fervent consumerism. I love how you make things festive without piles of disposable stuff. Merry Christmas Eve Eve!
Merry Christmas! Wishing you a bright & hopeful New Year!
Merry Christmas Erin to you and your family!
Naturally, I need to know the provenance of the gray tote holding the lovely gifties…
Merry Christmas, Erin and family!
Same one as last time;) Utility Canvas!
I’ve enjoyed your posts throughout the year. Have a lovely break and I look forward to reading more of your view on life, and the links and reading you’ve been doing, in the new year.
Thank you for your beautiful blog which I regularly savour in Melbourne, Australia. It was with great delight that I discovered your book earlier this year; I’ve been a big fan ever since! With best wishes for a blissful Christmas. May 2017 bring you and your family many joyful moments.
I found reading Zadie Smith’s acceptance speech such a balm and am so glad you featured it here. Lately, I keep thinking who do I want to look to and to emulate during Trump’s presidency? Both Zadie and you come to mind. Thank you for making this space one that I look forward to reading each day and for striking a tone, at once, inspiring and calming. Enjoy the upcoming holidays with those you love. Looking forward to all that RMTL will be in 2017!
Dear Erin,
I gifted myself your book for Christmas. I have been inspired by your blog and now tell everyone about your book! My whole family (husband, 13 year old daughter and even my 8 year old boy who loves to hold onto to everything “But mama, I used to play with that when I was five!” :)) is now going through our things to make piles of what we can donate! A perfect way to begin the new year! Thank you for your example for all the work to write down all you know and have experienced! Happy Christmas and a most loving year 2017!
Julia
Tell me a bit more about your boots? Who are they made by? Thanks!
yes, please, me too!!
Hi Erin! I was wondering, is there a way to sign up for email updates with your new blog posts? I signed up for the email and didn’t realize it was just your monthly update, lol!
Hi Daniella,
I don’t have a specific sign up for that option, but if you’re interested, you could sign up through a service like Bloglovin or an RSS reader, which will automatically update with new posts!
E.
Actually I just saw when I commented there’s an option to “notify me of new posts by email”. I think I’m all set! 🙂
