Hi Erin – can you share where the slippers are from, or the name of the slippers themselves? The floors in our house are frigid and my daughter would appreciate some slippers!
They’re ballet slippers! We got ours at a dance shop here in the city. They’re made by Bloch!
My daughter had the same shoes! Is Faye starting ballet? How fun.
She’s taking a little class at the Y, just for fun!
May I ask what brand those slippers are? Thanks in advance!
They’re Block ballet slippers!
Just signed up here. Nice variety of objects, but I must say, I also love the lamp base for its decorative simplicity.
Hi Erin! I’m curious about your humidifier(s), as I’m considering getting one of those useful beauties. Do you still have the smaller-sized one as well, and if so, do you find that the larger one makes a bigger difference in air humidity? Or are they both pretty equally useful?
Thanks in advance! Also, congrats on the yoga ๐
We still have both. The smaller one is in with Faye and Silas and the larger one out in the main room with us. I love that the larger one can be set to be a continuous mist!
Uh. That humidifier looks AWESOME. Does it work great?
We love it!
I was just searching your blog this morning to find your previous humidifier recommendation! Is there a specific reason you opted for the larger one pictured here? I’m trying to decide which size will work best for our 450 square foot studio complete with congested baby).
We put the smaller one in with Faye and Silas and the larger one in the larger main room of apartment, just because of the size of the room!
Hi. I was wondering about the jars you are using for freezing milk. Thanks!!
Hi: they’re just 8 ounce Ball mason jars. I’ve been using the plastic caps because the metal ones tend to get a little rusty when run through the dishwasher, and the single lid makes for a slightly more streamlined process!
Kind of a silly question, but what do you do with the frozen milk….put the jar in hot water to warm the milk? Then give it to Silas warm? I breastfed two babies exclusively and before #3, I have to figure out how to free up my boobs! Haha!
ha! yes. (we’re not giving it to him popsicle-style ;)) i usually defrost it in the fridge or on the counter and if need be, warm up in a pan with warm water!
Haha! I don’t know why the freezing of breast milk has always been unexplored territory for me! But next time around…It’s so on ๐ Thank you Erin!
Those tiny ballet shoes are so adorable. ๐
Erin, please forgive my curiosity: is “Silas” a family name? My deeply loved grandfather was named Silas. I had wanted to name my son after him, at least as a middle name, but lost that battle 37 years ago. Now I’m hoping a little grandson will come along and be given that name by the same son, who adored his great grandfather. It’s very, very precious to me, so seeing your little Silas mentioned or pictured brings floods of wonderful memories. All my best to you and your sweet family.
Great to see your profile in The Cut!
looking at those ballet shoes makes me miss doing ballet. i’ve always find ballerinas very beautiful to watch but i don’t see myself fitting despite doing it at young age.
Just want to say thank you for your beautiful book & blog. I bought it at a lovely store called Terrain & didn’t read it right away.. As soon as I read it front to back, I was beyond inspired to simplify my similar tiny apartment in CT. The book is now permanently visible as a resource & a reminder to be mindful, pursue sustainability, & to only own things that I use or love. It has created a sense of freedom that has made all the difference. Happy Saturday!
So glad to hear that!
Hello Erin-We’ve followed your blog for such a long time. Everything about your blog is soothing and encourages us all to live with things that are important to us which must times mean bucking the trend these day. Thank you putting into words what many of us think. -Laurel
Thanks for such kind words!
Yes! Heard the interview with the author for Exit West on the radio and was completely captivated. Can’t wait to dive into that.
Ballet slippers are so dear! One of the few mementos I kept from my oldest daughter’s toddlerhood was her first, worn-through pair of ballet slippers. ๐
Have you seen these??

I know you use life factory bottles, but these could save you a little more space since you already store your milk in mason jars. ๐
Ha! Yes: just saw these the other day! If I didn’t have a stash of hand-me-down bottles, I’d give them a try!
How is that humidifier? I struggle (really struggle) with allergies, but haven’t found much success with humidifiers because the ones I’ve tried have been very hard to clean.
We really love it! It’s small, so it doesn’t have a huge impact on the room as a whole, but it’s wonderful to sleep next to. Admittedly, I can’t really comment on the allergies or cleaning aspect yet!
Hey, i know a lot of people come on here to look up this humidifier (I did) – just wanted to say that we got one, it had almost no output, so we emailed the company, and it’s been a whole go-around that’s lasted now for three months and we are still waiting on a replacement part that will hopefully solve it (it’s a multi-step process to try and do this and they’re very reticent to offer a return and refund) – such a headache. I’ve since looked at online reviews and it looks like we aren’t the only ones, so do be cautious if ordering this item :/.
Yikes, sorry to hear that. We’ve loved every minute of ours and haven’t run into that (or any) issue!
Thatโs good to hear – I do wish ours had worked or that theyโd been willing to send a new one (they sent a replacement part but it didnโt work either – all in all a frustrating 3 month process and Iโm reticent to send my husband down that road again :/)
