lately, busy.
but not too busy to collect a few fall leaves on my walk to the library.
what have you been up to lately?
……………………………………………………….
ps. do you know what i miss most about old library books? i bet you can guess.
yes, of course, the little cards in the back that let you know who had checked out the book before you. in college i would look for the old books in the library just so i could read the names:
’emily jones, october 8, 1931′
‘meredith smith, february 20, 1935’
i don’t know, sometimes i guess i just like a little reminder of my place in the scheme of things.
here, a fellow alumna’s look at the women who came before us. i spent the better part of college writing about these gals, so this site makes me happy. enjoy.

I do some dog walking in my spare time and am guilty of picking up leaves all along my walks… At this time of year I just can't resist!
Oooh, what lovely lovely colors. I'm so excited for the Autumn pallet.
hi erin! ahh i love library books… my favorite part is the smell, especially of the really old books, but really any book that's been loved by many hands has a wonderful musty smell to it.
i hear you… i liked those cards too!
i remember those cards – i love those old stamp too for the dates
Aw a fellow sentimental gal! I feel exactly the same way!

Ahh yes, something an e-reader can't compete with ~ all those cards, and yes the little date stamps. I kind of miss the old card catalogue too. :>)
I've been collecting leaves that blow across our parking lot at work. I bring the good ones into my office.
love your leaves and the cards with the names. yes, i loved those.
I've been seeing too many green and brown leaves lately. I want some beautiful ambers and golds. Hmph.
I too miss the cards in books. I also miss card catalogs. When I was in graduate school our little art library still had a card catalog system and was just transitioning to electronic files when I graduated.
Your leaves are very pretty. I'm jealous.
The cards were my favorite thing about library books, too. I went to an historical womens college, so it was both special and empowering to see the names of those who went before me.
Happy fall and leaf collecting.
those cards were my favorite too! some libraries still have them, but they don't have the same nostalgic feel to them. happy fall!!
I so miss the old library cards! I adored them!
These borrower cards with pockets are on etsy! http://www.etsy.com/listing/60252646/library-borrower-cards-set-of-12-with
lately I've been sewing and trying not to give myself a hard time about not working out. lol.
My husband finally got the courage to make a gesture because one of those little cards in a library book! I had been eyeing him on campus but heard he was shy. Then one night I came home to the dorm to find a note that said, "I recently checked out 'Notes from the Asylum' and saw that you were the only other person who checked out the book. I didn't think people stilled borrowed books – call it an 80's phenomena – and thought it was reason for fanfare." I will never forget how excited that note made me. It was the start. I asked him out a couple weeks later and we just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. Because of that little card in the back of a library book.
What a cool tumblr site. That first image is awesome. I miss the library, too. Growing up, a bunch of us used to go there every day after school until our parents could pick us up. We did our homework there and definitely caused some havoc. Remember the card catalogs?!
PS: LOVED Blue Hill. Too bad we missed each other:(
my brother went to boarding school in new hampshire, every time my parents would come home from visiting him my mom would bring back tons of these leaves to decorate our house with… loved them
fall colors are so beautiful!
The school that I work at still use library cards. Now that I am a teacher at that school, I sometimes wonder if I will ever stumble upon books with library cards that have my name on it from the days when I was a student at this school. I kinda doubt that I will ever stumble upon this, but it would be cool!
