have you seen the documentary film handmade nation? it’s playing in providence on friday and i’m thrilled to get the chance to see it. i spent the afternoon with filmmaker faythe levine and artist merrilee challiss and am feeling so grateful for having gotten the chance to spend time with such thoughtful, creative women.
faythe is curating a show with work by merrilee and margaret oomen at craftland in providence, opening tomorrow. if you live nearby, come check it out!

enjoy!
I find the rise in interest in the handmade fascinating. Personally, I learned so much of this stuff as a kid. My father's mother was very gifted, she shared much of what she knew with my mother, and they both shared with me. Then at some point I started finding it all demeaning and anti-feminist in some way. It's sad, really. In the last several years I've been revisiting so much of what I learned as a girl and loving it again plus learning a number of new skills. I'm happy I made my way back around. Full circle…
let us know how it is!
Have a great time

Darn, it looks like they've already done a showing in my area. I, myself have recently gotten into the homemade, crafting craze! I'd love to hear what you think of it. Maybe I'll consider getting the DVD. Thank you for sharing!
