tough as nails.

March 26, 2009
nailstonight i treated myself to a much needed wednesday spa night. as part of my special self-treatment, i decided to polish my nails. my nails are almost never polished, so i had to rummage around a bit before finding a trusty little bottle of a pale pink shade. i set to work with my nails propped on the new issue of dwell, which just arrived in my mail box this afternoon!

as i started to paint, i couldn’t help but notice that there, sprawling across the cover and directly above my fingers, was a headline about eco-friendly house paints. damn it all. after treating myself to all sorts of eco-friendly spa treatments, i had set to work painting my nails without thinking about what might be lurking in the polish. oh, me.

so i did a little search on skin deep {the environmental working group’s awesome cosmetic database} and sure enough was rewarded with proof of all the nasty chemicals that i was delicately painting onto my body. i guess the fumes should have been my first clue.

anyway, fear not. i did a little searching dear bloggers, and found a few brands that seem to allow for lots of nail painting, with not quite so many of the gross-out chemicals.

{as for the little manicure? it’s smudged. well? i had to read the article about paint, and james was too busy cooking dinner to turn the pages for me!}

    try lippmann collection nail polish, too.
    they’re fortified with Biotin and Green Tea and are free from formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
    (my favorite is Sarah Smile – it was created with Sarah Jessica Parker. it’s the perfect light pink!)
