my week in objects (mostly).

February 5, 2010
1. these notebooks._MG_2642
{because they’re so full of opportunity. so clean}.

2. these folders._MG_2640
{because they are shiny, new, and organized by color}.

3. these kitchen scissors._MG_2647
{because they are the best tool for cutting frozen pizza. which we ate twice this week. oh, grad school}.

4. this ice cream._MG_2651
{because, fine it’s not an object. but it is so good. so. good}.

5. this radio._MG_2656
{because sometimes, you need a little something analog in the morning}.

I love brand new notebooks – especially if they are made out of graph paper. I get to draw and imagine all sorts of interiors and play around with different layouts that live in my head. One of my favorite ways to spend time…a journal of sorts.

i love the combo of these images together. so lovely — makes me feel like is should organize some stuff. ugh, even the thought of it annoys me. but maybe it would be more fun with bright colored envelopes?

Hi! I've been following half a dozen blogs for a few years now. I came across yours a few months ago. I don't usually comment on blogs, but I want to tell you how much I'm enjoying "reading my tea leaves." I read blogs as a source of creative inspiration for my design of clothes, etc. Over the past year, I've noticed that many of the blogs I've been following are focused on wanting and buying expensive stuff. It leaves me feeling empty. I'm really loving and appreciating your blog because it's inspiring me to find beauty and interest in the everyday and it leaves me feeling full. Thank you!

thank *you* t'louey! i've never really articulated it in this space, but these are the precisely the reasons why i started the series. there are so many beautiful things out there, and so many bloggers do a lovely job of curating their sites to showcase them. but it's important too, i think, to take a step back and appreciate what's already in front of us. thanks for your kind words. all best, erin.

agreed – brand new notebooks are the best.

i really wanna try the haagen daaz five ice cream but whenever i see it it's always next to my favorite local brand of gelato that i just can't resist.
    one day ^_^

and i'm glad other people cut pizza with scissors.

I use very similar notebooks and love them.

I think the object that made my week was a used copy of The Optimist's Daughter. I don't often buy books, I'm a library gal. It felt good supporting this sweet little bookstore on Bainbridge Island.

Perhaps reading will help me lose this blah feeling I'm carrying around with me today…
