make-believe: planning.

January’s come and put me into a contemplative mood. Maybe it’s all of those Gregorian chants I’ve been listening to as I try to plow through my work. Whatever  it is, the new year has landed me somewhere between an existential crisis and business as usual. I’m making plans, listing goals, figuring out a path. While I’m here, I figure there’s no harm in daydreaming about a pair of sharp new shoes and an i-would-wear-it-every-day-until-it-falls-off dress. I’ve never been much a journaler (unless you count this space), but I’ve been making taking an awful lot of notes longhand these days. Any moments when I can drag myself out from behind a screen feel like good ones. What about you? Where have these first ten days found you?

What Gregorian chants have you been listening to? I love Gregorian chant, haven't listened in a long time! I recently fell back into listening to Indian chants – it's similarly calming and grounding, I've found, but I love the hollowness of Gregorian chant.

I can't say that I've been listening to just one set. I honestly listen to the Gregorian station on Spotify and just give a big thumbs down if things get too new-agey!

"somewhere between an existensial crisis and business as usual" — I am EXACTLY right there with you. (And actually, I think the "business as usual" part is what's precipitating the "existential crisis" part, if that makes any sense.)

A great collection of images, I especially love the watch – I've been looking for one just like it for years! Thank you!

I loved it too! Big and chunky but not overly so!

I love the watch, it's kind of perfect. Very classic and simple a tthe same time.

I'm feeling eerily similar. But the business as usual part is causing the existential crisis. I have gotten a bit too cozy in my temporary routine and don't know how to shake it off to get back into the grind.

I've been doing the same, making lists and thinking about some things I want to put in action. I like January for those sort of feelings. It's a good refresher.

P.S. LOVED your instagram pic of your paperwhites. Are you going to do a little how-to post on them? I wonder if it's too late to start growing them now…

I used to journal a lot, but now I do find myself making list after list. I have loved these first ten days, I have spent a lot of time dreaming and planning. In turn I have become energized and optimistic!

    Beautiful collage!

I like writing in journals. I always carry one with me so that I can take it out and reread what I wrote before or jot something down if I see/hear/think of something interesting. I could do that on my cell phone, but I figure that a thief is a lot less likely to steal my journal than he/she would be to steal my phone.

January is indeed for contemplation, and what better way to encourage such contemplation than being sick for almost the entire first half of the month? At least, that's how my body decided to do things this year. All my lists for home improvement, personal goals and the like have been pushed aside for now in favor of recovery… but, unfortunately, the lists and goals at my job are still the same. There is no rest for the weary, it seems, as I push through illness and fever to meet deadlines and attend meetings. But this has brought about a new contemplation: how might I juggle family, work and health in a more balanced way? The past few weeks have me thinking a lot about priorities.

What chants have you been listening to? I'd love something to calm me down while studying.
So far I've felt rather contemplative as well – nothing negative, just as though the cogs are turning a little bit more vigorously lately. Must be something in the air!

yes. cogs turning! notes on chants above! xo.
