dumplings.

dumplings, prepared I’ve written before about our weekly dinners with Cait and Curt. With the arrival of tiny Oliver, the ritual has become somewhat more unpredictable than it was this summer, but whether it’s dinner on a Tuesday or dinner on a Sunday, we still find ourselves gathered around their table on a weekly basis. These days the only difference is that we pass a tiny burping being from one shoulder to the next as we enjoy our meal.  On Saturday, we made dumplings.
dumplings Curt did most of the work while the rest of us cooed at Oliver’s ability to bob his head rhythmically and blink his eyelids. dumplings, folded Kale and mushrooms, garlic and ginger, sauteed and folded into dumpling wrappers.dumplings, pan fried Pan fried until deep golden and crispy. dumplings, cooked Served with scallions and jalapenos and sauces for dipping. dumplings, served The food’s secondary to the company, which only serves to tell you how much we love this newly minted trio.

So much fun. I think meals that take some compiling are the best kinds to make with friends: plenty of time for chatting to pass the time!

Oh, these look absolutely delicious! And not too difficult?

Super easy! The hardest part is the stamina required to stuff them all. We traded off to help the time pass!

I love these. They look fantastic. I am so envious lately of roots and friends and rituals. When we lived in the 'burgh we had a great group of friends, always cooking, eating, sharing ideas, letting the our children run around free. Since we have moved, we haven't quite found our niche yet. It is pretty urban where we live, but I long for neighbors I adore and some stronger roots where I feel grounded and strong.

You are a wonderful person for cooking delicious food for new parents! I have lived on the food others have prepared for me for 6 weeks now and am not looking forward to the day it ends and I'm on my own in the kitchen with TWO babies…

Was the kale steamed on its own before being sautéed with the other ingredients? Yum!

Looks amazing! Do you have a recipe? Where did you get the pastry or did you make it from scratch?

A recipe would be most welcome. My daughter is now vegetarian which made me realize how many of my recipes involved chicken. This would be great to make for dinner. (I have a nice carrot soup recipe to go with it.)

Would you mind sharing the recipe? I could probably wing it, but have never made dumplings so a guide would be wonderful. Thanks! 🙂
