my week in objects (mostly).

April 17, 2015

five little things that made my week.

1. this empty-ish space.
crates {excited for a little something new in this spot, fingers-crossed my hare-brained idea works.}

2. these clamps.
clamps {for keeping sliding closet doors closed around curious babies.}

3. this watercolor thank you note.
watercolors {toddler art beats most.}

4. this tiny tray.
tray {for keeping tiny pepper strips and bits of cheese neat and tidy. you know, for thirty seconds or so.}

5. this wire basket
basket {because it’s emptied of winter hats and scarves and gloves. finally.}

other things:
sunscreen season is upon us.
closet upgrade courtesy of wire hangers, muslin, and a little patience.
field guide to american sandwiches.
starting a family in nyc.
there’s a new mansion in the neighborhood.
pretty new stuff to sniff.
baby or career? skip right to the advice part. best thing i read all week/year.
they call it a suit.”

    Omg Erin, that baby or career article! It made my life yesterday. All I've been needing is for someone to come along and say "You can do it, you will do it, and it will all be FINE. More than fine, it will be AMAZING." This article was such a breath of fresh air amidst all of the hand-wringing about work/life/baby/balance. Can we please petition her to write that book that she says would be "terrible and highly subjective?" Because, selfishly, I need it.

    Ah! Excited to see what kind of project your working on for that special spot! Really liking the book review series as well. Happy weekend!

    Do you use this particular sunscreen already or are you going to test it out? What type do you put on Faye? Our little one is at day care so she's on a schedule to be outside playing 2x per day and we need to send her off with sunscreen. The last natural one we picked (zinc-based), was a pasty, greasy mess and we are stuck on selecting a new one that's low on chemicals but practical for everyday use.

      We had a sample of it and we just got a large bottle in the mail before the weekend! I've had similar luck with physical barrier sunscreens with zinc (so hard to spread I'd go without!), but this oil is super (duper) easy to slather on. It's not one hundred percent perfect, but it is free of much that's dubious in other sunscreens and really, truly easy to apply (which is a huge help for getting Faye covered up!). (I admit that I've been terrible about sunscreen the past few years because I hated how zinc sunscreens made me feel (and look!) but I didn't want to slather other kinds on my skin. This feels like a really nice compromise! Hope that helps (sorry so longwinded)!

      Thanks, Erin. I've been largely in the same boat as you in terms of not picking anything so as to avoid the chemicals for myself. I'll look into this one, as we are approaching sunnier weather (hooray!) and need to keep some baby skin protected as well as get back to protecting my own!

    I'm due with my first child in two months and that ask polly article is indeed the best thing I've read on the subject in months. Thanks so much for sharing.
