my week in objects (mostly).

January 22, 2016

five little things that made my week.

1. these bulbs.bulbs_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3771{because new beginnings.}

2. these pom-poms.pompom_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3776{for being mostly still not destroyed.}

3. this “car.”reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_4331
{for providing week-long entertainment.}

4. this book.sadie_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_4339{for being just so deliciously sweet (and for inspiring the above).}

5. this bag.bag_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_4340 {full of useful “author” things, from my mama.}

other things:

a love of sentences. brilliant.

policewoman emoji, anyone?

everything. forever and always.

obsessing over home energy.

the joy of missing out.

the truth about clothing donations.

listening to this, obviously.

maybe the most perfect hoodie and sweats.

this beautiful new site.

if you’re in new york this weekend, you’ll need a batch of these.

me in other places:

so glad to have been a guest on the just-launched #whydowehavethings podcast.

my musings on speed decluttering.

    Obsessed with JOMO. Also, “A Love of Sentences”. Front and center was my favorite Jhumpa Lahiri quote. The short story it is pulled from gets me every time.

    Really enjoying your beautiful book, Erin. It caught my eye on an end cap in Barnes & Noble, and after reading the first chapter and seeing the photos I realized I wanted it to come home with me. I’m pretty minimalist, so that should tell you how much inspiration I was feeling!

    Can you please tell me the title and author of the book that inspired the box car? I’d like to request it from the library for my little grandson. Thanks.

    Karen

    Beautiful bulb vases! Do you mind sharing where you got them?

      They’re not really bulb vases—just vintage bottles with the a wide neck! James found these ones in an old lab!

    I’ve always wanted to try out putting bulbs in water! Is that garlic or an onion?

    Have a good weekend! Hopefully NY doesn’t get a lot of snow! =)

    I’ve never heard of A Love of Sentences before but at the very top is this:
    Some nights you find one floating into bed with you, propped on an elbow, giving you a look of fascination, a look that says I can’t believe I’ve found you.
    — Kim Addonizio, “Ex-Boyfriends”

    And it’s so beautiful and accurate and non-flowery but still perfect that I feel just pretty gutted.

    My favourite posts! Love these every week. The bulbs idea is on my to-do list, along with regrowing lettuce and celery from the stubby stalky bits.

    I seriously love how you take such beautiful photos of the simplest of objects. Looking forward to reading the book too- just have to work around my hoarding husband to declutter!!

    I love how the “car” later became a sled. You two are so brilliantly resourceful.
