I’ve got a running list of things I’m planning to pack for our stay in France. It’s mostly in my head. It changes every day or so and depending on the last time I checked the weather report.
I’m thinking I’ll follow my typical rule of thumb, which is to pack layers and as though we’re embarking on a week-long stay. We’ll be able to do laundry at my aunt and uncle’s once we’ve settled and I’m never afraid of wearing the same favorites over and over again, anyway. Still, it helps to be a little strategic. Choosing a dress or two that I know I’ll be able to wear over and over again without getting bored or otherwise bothered feels essential.
One item on my list is the linen Fleer dress from Bridge & Burn.
The Fleer in Black Linen is an update to the original cotton Fleer dress—one of the very first things I ever ordered from the company. Like most everything from Bridge & Burn, it’s an extremely versatile dress in a classic, youthful silhouette. Made from a combination of linen, cotton, and a bit of spandex, it’s comfortable and feels durable to withstand a month of frequent wears. With sneaks, it’s perfect for spending the day sightseeing. With a pair of sandals and a sweater, it’s the perfect thing to wear to dinner out. With a blouse layered over top, it becomes a snappy skirt. In other words: it’s a traveler’s dream come true.
If you’re on the hunt for a sundress—or any thing at all—to add to your summer wardrobe, the new Pacific Latitudes collection at Bridge & Burn is filled with summery prints in warm-weather fabrics like cotton and linen. As always the designs fit into Bridge & Burn’s signature blend of “functionality, comfort and unexpected detailing.” Bridge & Burn clothes are designed in Portland, Oregon and manufactured both in the US and abroad. You can read more about their manufacturing ethos in this post. (And in response to the frequent questions I get about where James does his shopping; he’s had some really nice luck in the men’s section!)
This week, Bridge & Burn is offering Reading My Tea Leaves readers the chance to win a $300 gift certificate to spend as your heart desires in their shop. To enter the giveaway, fill out the form below. The giveaway closes on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. A winner will be contacted directly. I was eyeing that very dress for my own June travels. How does it fare in terms of wrinkles?
pretty well! it’s a linen/cotton blend with a bit of elastic so less wrinkly than linen alone. though i’m probably the wrong person to ask…love a rumply linen dress!
Ooo! Pretty! Thanks for hosting.
Thank you for introducing me to Bridge & Burn! I purchased one of their hooded coats this year for springtime and I wear it nearly every day. I love the look of this dress! Such fun styles and fabrics.
I was also eyeing that dress already! It looks quite short though which was the only thing holding me back – how does it fair on non-model length legs?
It’s a little on the short side! (But who are you saying doesn’t have model-length legs? Just kidding!)
Thanks Erin! I’ve been hesitant to order from them because they don’t appear to have petite sizes but if I were to win I would take my chances 🙂
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway! I’m actually headed to Portland at the end of the month, so it’d be fun to spend this in their store! I think this lovely looking dress might be too short on my 5’10 frame though 🙁 Have a lovely time in France!
The ‘Sage’ dresses are all really lovely and quite a bit longer, if you’re on the hunt in this collection!
I have had my eye out for pretty and somehow nursing-friendly dresses – they have a couple of button ups that would fit the bill! Thanks for the giveaway!
Any recommendations on the nursing-friendly front? It’s sad having a new season roll around without being able to pull out all of my favorite spring-y dresses!
Anything with buttons!!! There are actually a bunch of great shirt dresses in the B&B collection that work perfectly on that front!
Such a great company! I’ve been saving up for one of their raincoats, so fingers crossed!
They have such great options to choose from!
The Allen linen chambray skirt and Orchard Blue Dress have caught my eye! Also, my husband needs a raincoat…fingers crossed 🙂 Thanks for hosting, Erin!
Disappointing — another company that doesn’t believe in making XL clothes for women, though they’ll accommodate size **XXL** for men. #doublestandard
Alix, I’d definitely reach out directly to Bridge & Burn with your concerns.
I’ve been looking for a linen dress! I’m still nursing a little one, so it may have to wait till next summer, but I’ll keep this one in mind.
Ooooooh. I’m in love with their Alameda Plaid coat! (I live in Montana. It spent the last two days snowing. It totally doesn’t feel out of place to be coat shopping instead of sun dress shopping. Lol.)
I’m heading to Portland this weekend and trying on some of their clothes is on my to do list! Now that I’m not nursing or pregnant for the first time in 4(?!) years I want ALL the dresses and theirs are gorgeous
i’ve been stalking the button up dresses- this would let me convince my husband to spend the dollars on them! also, the FB like link is broken in the 2ndary entry section.
Hi Erin,
Do you mind sharing where you got the brown leather pouch? I am looking for something like this for my diaper bag/travel needs.
thank you!
Barnacle Bags!
I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but this is the first time I leave a comment… You write beautifully and I am truly inspired by your ideas and way of life. I don’t know if you are planning to go to Belgium while in Europe, but if you come to Brussels, I think you would like to visit Maison Particulière. It is an art center that hosts exhibitions from private collections… and since I work there, I would be more than happy to meet you for a coffee! And Belgian waffles 😉
Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m not sure we’ll make it to Brussels, but coffee and waffles and art sound perfect!
Erin, you’ve gotten me eyeing and saving my pennies for quite a few items at made by such lovely companies. I love their ethos and their products are simple, yet beautiful…and really look like they’ll stand the test of time (and the life of a mama of one wild and crazy boy ;)). So jealous you’ll be in France this summer!!! Eat all the cheese, croissants and crusty bread. Drink all the wine and enjoy all the things for all of us who will be living vicariously through you! xo
Will do!!!
Hi Erin,
Is that a Tom Bihn travel bag? I’m searching for a travel bag that will stand the test of time and one that’s small enough to carry on. If you have any recommendations, I’d appreciate them!
Best,
Meg
P.S. I second another commenter’s concern about XL. I too would like the option for XL, especially in fabrics that might be less forgiving, like linen. Thanks for offering to share our feedback with B+B.
Hey Meg,
Yes: Tom Bihn! We really love them. More on packing to come…next week? As for sizing, I’m more than happy to pass along the message to Bridge and Burn, but I also think you guys should reach out directly!
Would be nice to have an option for gender besides male/female for the poll. (Also wish they would list COO for each product since they manufacture in a few different places)
Love my tom bihn bags- I use the 25l for most travel and edc (I’d use the 19 for edc if I didn’t also use it for travel and want a bit more space for knitting stuff)
can you tell me where your blue rug came from. i am loving it. hope you are enjoying france. sure looks like it.
we’re having such a great time! the rug in these photos is actually black and cream, though it reads as a dark navy next to our navy furniture. it’s from joinery; here’s a direct link! (if you’re on the hunt for a true blue, they have this one!)
Done! thank you so much. 🙂
