Greetings from a sleepy apartment. As I rest and recuperate and as we ease into life with two kiddos in the house, IΒ thought it might be nice to let you know that I’ve been working on updating old posts in the Baby Proof series that I started when I was pregnant with Faye and that my sister Cait contributed to while Faye was an infant. I’ve mostly cleaned up old links and included a few additional bits of wisdom where I had them.Β
I’m working on a few new posts on postpartum care, and fitting a second baby into a small space, and finding cozy things for wintertime babies to wear, but in the meantime, here are a few old favorites for the early days:
Baby Proof: Packing a Hospital Bag
Baby Proof: Surviving New Parenthood in the Metropolis

Congratulations Erin! So happy for you and your beautiful family. Hoping it was an easy, uneventful delivery and mama is recovering and enjoying the babymoon. π Good work!
Congrats on the new addition, Erin! What’s the beautiful boy’s name?
Silas Wilder Boyle Casey!
What a wonderful name. My little Silas is almost 3. Big congrats to you!
I’m so happy that you did this. π
Can you reccomend a natural toddler pillow? Would love a post on current favorites for Faye! Thanks!
We never had a toddler pillow! Just a standard-sized one from Pacific Coast Down.
I’ve loved seeing the Instagram photos of the Boyle Casey team over the past week π Silas is beautiful! I apologize if you already answered this question somewhere in the comments but is there a particular brand of witch hazel pads that you’ve used and recommend? Thank you, Erin! <3
Congrats Erin and family! Very cool and helpful post btw.
We’ve been loving the wool onesies, footies, and leggings by Nui Organics (probably sold at the Sprout San Francisco store in Brooklyn) for our little winter baby girl. I’m looking forward to hearing how your ideas!
I love them too for my toddler! π got them at the spout in chicago though.
So happy to hear about post updates! Expecting my little dude in April. Take your time, and enjoy recovery. We are here whenever you get to us π
Hi! Congratulations firstly! How wonderful to have a baby in the house again! Anyway, I know you’re taking it slow but I got inspired by a podcast called radiolab, specifically its most recent episode called On the media presents: busted: americas poverty myths. You may have already heard it. But I think it might be right up your alley especially since you are in repose. Also, a kinfolk article from volume sixteen called a sense of belonging by peter block, is inspiring me right now. Take care.
Congrats to you and your sweet family!
Congratulations Erin! he looks so precious and Silas Wilder is such a great name. How’s Faye taking it?
Congratulations on your beautiful boy! If you don’t mind me asking, what is the inspiration behind both of your children’s names? They are both so lovely π
I am 37 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I stumbled upon your blog while I was doing prenatal research and I’ve been following for the past few months. Thank you for updating! I was so curious as to whether or not you had the baby. Love your helpful posts as a new mom.
Congratulations to you all! Erin, did you have Silas at home? So happy he is safely here.
Congratulations to you and the family! Silas is a great name!
Congratulations on the arrival of your precious little one. Wishing you and yours bundles of happiness. I am a knitter, and I absolutely love the little overalls. They look so soft. Such a simple design, yet so perfect. Any possibility of your posting the source for the pattern? I like to give first time mothers a copy of Baby Love by Maud Byrt (I believe that is correct). It’s written by three generations (if I remember correctly) of Dutch midwife, and it describes the basics needed to welcome a little one- so much less than what is described in most parenting magazines. May the year ahead be filled with moments of happiness for you and yours and may your heart be filled with joy and peace.
A funny coincidence, a friend of mine has a daughter named Anduin FAE, and a son named Silas. π great names!
