how to know it’s november.

November 5, 2018

tucked in upper cabinets, candy.

on sidewalks, leaf tannins.

outside windows, orange.

in mugs, cider.

in the oven, muffins.

on the stove, soup.

at dinner, darkness.

piled on beds, blankets.

on the street, murmurs.

in conversation, tension.

in long lines, voters.

on ballots, check marks.*

at home, bated breath.

in hearts, anticipation.

in throats, hearts.

*if you haven’t voted yet, and you’re not sure where to start, there are lots of resources this way.

I read this to my four-year-old daughter as a poem, for nap time today. 🙂

The candy is definitely tucked in a cupboard 🙂
It’s raining a cold consistent drizzle where I live today and I’ve got chili stewing that I can’t wait to dig into!

mustard, orange, yellow forests. probably my favorite part of fall.
i always get a sense of urgency around this time – only 2 months until a new year ! i took some time to think about what i really want to get done before the new year: https://tps-steph.blogspot.com/2018/11/0012-19-by-2019.html

If Donald Trump has done one thing for our country it’s getting people motivated to make their voices heard. I don’t think I’ve seen so much buzz about voting before this year.

I needed this this morning… my vote is in, and the soup is simmering on the stove 🙂 Thank you.

What a beautiful poem! There is nothing I love more about fall than when the color of the leaves starts changing.
