mother's day gift guide | reading my tea leaves

For anyone looking to give the mothers in their lives a little something special on Mother’s Day, this year as every year, here are a few ideas for the adventurous, thrill-seeking, tech-savvy, gadget-loving, handy, creative, all-around brilliant and dynamic mothers in your lives.

A soft and expandable tank top.

A guide to all things fermentation.

A crock to ferment it all in.

A front-loading toolbox for easy access.

A (recyclable) surfboard for solo adventures.

An intimate moisturizer.

A personal massager.

A mug for bleary-eyed mornings.

A portable projector for date nights in.

Action items:

In an effort to ground all of this gift-giving in something a bit more down to earth, here are organizations you can support to help mothers in need:

In honor of Maternal Mental Health Week this week, join the Blue Dot Project for their campaign to “publicly acknowledge and recognize that mothers need support in order to thrive.” Use the hashtag #MakingOverMotherhood to share your story.

To get mothers home to their families for Mother’s Day, join National Bail Out in their annual #FreeBlackMamas mobilization to buy freedom for Black mamas and caregivers currently incarcerated because they can’t make bail. If you’re able, donate directly to get these mamas home.

This will be my first Mother’s Day, and while I don’t necessarily subscribe to a show-your-love-on-one-prescribed-day, I’ve asked for one thing that I hope will become tradition– breakfast in bed!

Gah, Sarah Kersten’s beautiful crock! That would be a mother’s day dream right there.

Not a mama yet, but I have one! : )

My husband and I donated to the National Bail Out project as a gift for our mothers. Hoping to make this a yearly tradition.

I love this list. I love that this list made me think, in a public and archetypal way, of my motherhood as going together with my adventurous, curious side. Immediately clicked on that toolbox link (and it felt so good to think – of course a toolbox makes as much sense for a Mother’s Day gift as a Father’s Day gift! More sense, as I’m the only one who is ever interested in the tools! Check check for adventuring and camping too).

For anyone on the fence about the Maude vibrator: do not hesitate. It is the best sex I’ve ever owned bar none! Easy to use, solo or with a partner, holds charge forever, beautifully designed, completely waterproof, and effective. (Their lube is also spectacular, btw.) I would buy one for my momma, but she already bought one for herself on my recommendation!

      So good to know!

Thank you, for this. My mother died when I was only 17, so Mother’s Day has always been a holiday of mixed emotions for me. This year, however, I have a mama-to-be to celebrate and I am looking forward to giving her a gift certificate to Storq.

Who gives their mother a vibrator?!?

Well, one woman on this thread alone! But, also, gifts not only for your mother! Other people showering mothers with gifts: Partners of mothers! Husbands of mothers! Wives of mothers! Sisters of mothers! Friends of mothers! Mothers of mothers! You just never know how sex positive and happy folks can be!

My thought exactly. My mother would faint if I gave her a vibrator and lube.

A 66 year old mama here with a 31 year old daughter. I would definitely not be pleased with the vibrator as a gift from her.

But would you find ok if a mother offers her daughter a beautiful piece of lingerie for example? When we were kids me and my sister offered my parents a kamasutra (my mother is your age and I’m near your daughter). They like it 🙂 Now that my mother is a widow maybe this would be a fun gift. And empowering. As from what we talked sex for her was kind of a blind game. She and my father were teenager virgins when they married with little knowledge of sex, how it worked really. And as with all in life there is so much to learn and explore. I personally find lingerie more personal than a vibrator but have received from girlfriends my mother etc etc. Also as someone said above this is a gift guide of things to give mothers not necessarly daughters giving mothers.

Coming from a mama who has struggled with a seriously depleted sex drive since pregnancy (and now I have a 2.5 year old…) I seriously appreciate you sharing the Maude. Bought myself an early mother’s day gift.
