2. this bag of rugs.

{sent off via my neighborhood buy nothing group. (and now i’m hooked.)}

3. these dresses for faye to wear all summer.

{because really what is better than putting on undies and a dress and calling yourself dressed?}

4. this big bag.

{because i’ve always used it mostly for storage but this week it was just what we needed to haul to the park.}

5. this chocolate.

{for being in the right place at the right time.}

boys can.

i know about plants now.

motherwork.

a little surplus of gratitude often has downstream effects.

birth control , eugenics, and margaret sanger.

pair up.

virtually their entire city would be rooting against them.

the future is gender neutral.

    Thank you for the link to the Judith Viorst piece — I sent it to my still very spry husband who turns 70 today. And, yes to the “boys can” poster. My sons did/do all of those things and are better men for it. I was also wondering about Faye’s birthday party dress — also from Mabo? Keep stopping to smell those roses!

      My dad turned 70 last week! Faye’s dress is from a lovely Icelandic line called As We Grow. We’ve had two purchased through Over the Ocean, which is closing up shop, but you might be able to find them elsewhere!

    yes for dresses – the simplest best! also a big fan of repurposing bags – talking kits and summer simplicity this way: https://tps-steph.blogspot.com/2019/06/0039-simplifying.html

    Loved that last article. It’s so frustrating that the data is so scarce or heavily swayed by values when it comes to parenting decisions. Many millions of parents have gone before me. so I was hoping that the evidence for or against different options would be easier to come by. Instead, I’m coming up empty handed even on simple things like whether or not to use fluoride toothpaste or how much water to offer in a sippy cup during the day to a still-breastfed baby. I finally just decided to seek out more experienced parents (facebook groups have been the easiest place to find a number of them at once) and get their feedback (pros and cons) on different issues. They often point out things I hadn’t previously considered. And they usual present a range of different views. I also found a fantastic pediatrician whose opinion I trust (she is super smart, wise, and a parent herself). In the end, seeing the forest for the trees has been the most helpful. My daughter has access to good food, fresh air, clean water, great health care, a quality education. She has a roof over her head and is not subject to abuse or neglect. I still have all sorts of important and mundane decisions to make about her care, but that last piece makes it easier to review the information I can come by, go with my gut, and call it good enough (and then course correct as needed).

    May I ask a petty question?? As a momma as well… I’ve been debating over the medium versus large size of the bag. May I ask which you have? I know you’re not peddling or marketing LLB… but before I pull the trigger and buy something new, I thought I would ask which one you have, if you like it, and if it met your needs.
    Thank you kindly.

      I think this is the large one! I bought it in person at the LL Bean store a few summers ago so I’m not positive. It’s been great for my needs, but of course, those are my own, so I’m not sure what you might have in mind for it for yourself! In any case, it’s a very sturdy bag I’ve loved having!
