black friday fireside, outside, and online.

November 29, 2019

Today is a busy day for the internet and a slow and sleepy day for me. I’m generally overwhelmed by the noise regarding sales and shopping and deals, deals, deals this time of year and on Black Friday especially.

My personal reality is that I rarely shop at all on this day after Thanksgiving. I’m usually too busy staking out a spot for myself on the kitchen hearth at my mom and dad’s house, warming my pajama-ed bottom in front of the fire until it’s so hot I need to step away for a minute—to fill up another cup with coffee or peel another clementine—and then as soon as I’ve cooled off again, to reclaim the territory.

Later, I usually go for a walk with whatever hodgepodge of family wants to join. We trek through marsh grass and putting greens to the beach of my hometown. I nearly always carry clippers with me, to help lay claim to tiny bits of the autumnal beauty that I can cart with me back to the city: milkweed fluff and juniper berries and tangles of summer greenery gone gold.

All this to say that if you’re not the type to follow the hype and the sales and the general consumer frenzy of Black Friday, I understand. There are plenty of very valid reasons not to shop at all on this day, warming your bum by the fire included.

But I also know these days of discounts and specials can represent an opportunity for lots of folks to have access to some of the small businesses and brands that help keep this site humming throughout the year. With that in mind, here’s a list of a few of my personal favorite (or simply admired) items from site sponsors and affiliate partners, many of which are running sales this weekend:

Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season. Your posts are always a help to this new grandmother to a now 2-month old. Love my Nisolo crossbody bag, btw, (and today treated myself to the little cuff).

Wondering if the Byrd and belle code is correct? Just tried THANKS20 and it says it isn’t valid 🙁 No worries, but thought I’d double check in case! Thank you.

Looks like it’s not working, but it’s still listed on the site, so I’d just be in touch with them directly!
