gift guide: mother’s day.

April 27, 2021

Gift ideas for mothers, or anyone at all you love, in springtime:

The most special patchworked dress for spinning in (or wood splitting).

Yellow calico undies for fun.

An indigo tote.

The promise of a pre-ordered book and another one for right now.

Sunglasses for hiding behind

sandals for walking in

a bottle of euphorics for vibes.

A camping axe for good measure.

Action items:

In an effort to ground all of this gift-giving in something a bit more down to earth, here are organizations you can support to help mothers:

In honor of Maternal Mental Health Week next week, join the Blue Dot Project for their campaign to “publicly acknowledge and recognize that mothers need support in order to thrive.” If you’re up to it, lend your voice to the fourth annual #MakingOverMotherhood Challenge.

To get mothers home to their families for Mother’s Day, join National Bail Out in their annual #FreeBlackMamas mobilization to buy freedom for Black mamas and caregivers currently incarcerated because they can’t make bail. If you’re able, donate directly to get these mamas home.

I wish I could look that elegant when I split wood! Also the gift we all want is perhaps the home to ourselves for the day. Heh.

At least once a week I look at that dress and try to conjure up a justification for buying it. To be clear, I think the price is totally justified! I’m just not in a place to spend that much. Some day! It’s so so lovely.

I love your gift guide posts. One thing to note, “calming” ingredients in some non-alcoholic mixers, including Kin, interact poorly with SSRIs. People who take certain medications should proceed with caution or avoid entirely. (Source: https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/ssris-and-herbs-interaction-kin-recess)
