Last week I wrote a bit about some of the things I’ve taken to toting around in my bag in the name of reducing waste. I’ve been making an effort not to overly burden myself with things to carry, but I’ve found that keeping a few low-key tools tucked into my bag can put a dent in what I add to the trash heap on a daily basis.
As I’ve mentioned before, MightyNest is an online store that stocks a range of products designed to help people on a similar path toward sustainability at home. It’s just the kind of place where you might, for instance, find a thing or two, to help you reduce your daily waste. When I partnered with the company in the spring, I also highlighted their MightyFix program.
By way of reminder, for a small subscription rate of $10/month, subscribers to MightyFix receive a tried and true product to use in their home. The idea is that the product might encourage a change in their daily habits. With any luck, the month’s fix might replace something that’s not particularly sustainable or healthy in a subscriber’s home, with something that is.
Possible MightyFix products range from food storage containers to water bottles and sunscreens. This month, I’m partnering with MightyNest to offer Reading My Tea Leaves readers the chance to subscribe to their MightyFix service and receive a stainless steel food storage container as their first “fix.”
We’re not in the habit of bringing too many snacks around with us when we’re out and about in the city, but when we’re embarking on longer excursions to visit grandparents or beaches (or both!), it’s helpful to have a place to stow a little snack to tide us over until we’ve reached our destination. Stainless steel containers are terrific because they’re lighter weight than their glass counterparts and free of any plastic parts that might be concerning. This particular container is made of non-leaching, food-grade stainless steel. It’s dishwasher safe and resistant to stains and corrosion. At 6.5″ x 5″ it’s the perfect size for a sandwich or a light snack for the family.
Mostly, it’s a simple solution for a common dilemma: eating well while on the go. We’ve been filling our container with veggies and fruit for train snacks, but it’d be just as useful for toting lunch to the office or keeping leftovers fresh. If you’d like to make an oval stainless steel container yours for just $5 (retail value is $14.99!), you can sign up for MightyFix today.
Here’s a bit more about MightyFix:
+ A subscription to MightyFix is $10/month and each month subscribers receive an item valuing at least $10, and often more. With the code TEALEAVESCONTAINER you can get your first fix—an oval stainless steel container—for just $5. (The code will be automatically applied to your cart with this link.)
+ Shipping on your MightyFix is always free, but more than that, if you want to add other things to your order—detergent or dish soap or sunscreen—you can add those to your order and have all of those things ship for free, too.
+ 15% of your $10/monthly MightyFix is eligible to be donated to your child’s school. More details on MightyNest school fundraising right here.
+ MightyFix products are always products that would be useful in any household; not for families with children only.
+ You can be a subscriber for as long or short as makes sense for you; there’s no mandatory subscription period.
Here’s what to do: MightyNest is offering RMTL readers a special $5/month rate for the first month of their subscription. That means that if you sign up for MightyFix today, you’ll pay just $5 for the first month and you’ll receive a stainless steel food storage container as your first fix. The fix will arrive to your door within a week or so! To sign up: head this way. Offer expires August 31, 2016! (MightyFix is currently available to US customers with free shipping. Canadian and Australian MightyFixes ship for a small fee. Full shipping details here.)

I have that stainless steel container and love it! Just don’t try to put bulk tofu in there (as I have) or you’ll get tofu juice all over your bag 🙁
Noted! Definitely not 100% leak-proof!
Been using those for a while, the closing thingy got lose after a while (like 10 years) on one of them, the other one doesn’t seem to have the problem though.
I’m intrigued by their leakproof stainless steel containers, let’s hope they’re shipping to Europe 😉
This guy isn’t totally leak proof, just to be clear! International shipping details here: http://mightynest.com/shipping!
The same happened with mine within the first few uses
I was about to ask if they were leakproof. Thanks for already answering that question!
You sucked me in, Erin! Not only is it a smart choice, but BOY it is cute:)
New reader reaping rewards! Thanks for all of your great posts, Erin… What an inspiration!
After you talked about Mighty Fix last time, I got my friend a subscription as a housewarming present. She loves it! Now I’m considering it as a wedding gift for some friends this fall.
Amanda – we’re thrilled to hear this! Giving the MightyFix is a great way to remind people of your love month after month with healthy sustainable products. Thank you!
These seem like a great option, but I still choose glass containers (Glasslock to be specific) so I can microwave leftovers for lunch at work. Unfortunately, my office is not equipped with an oven or stove, so can’t reheat in any metal containers.
Sounds perfect!
Oh goodie! I signed up for MightyFix when you last posted about them and have been loving it! I’m looking forward to this being the next fix.
So glad, Camille! Not sure how it will work for folks who are already subscribed, but hopefully a container wends its way to you in a fix soon!
You should also check out lifewithoutplastic.com They have pretty much everything you could possibly need for a plastic/waste-free life.
Lovely! I signed us up the last time you mentioned the mighty fix and we’ve been using the bees wraps a bunch – I have been meaning to take stock of what we have on hand, too, in terms of containers to get some more right sized ones for snacks! My 2 year old is at the stage where she will suddenly be ravenous, and I need to have something on hand. Thank you!
I love my MightyFix! And, I also love that I can buy a few other items and have them ship for free with my MightyFix. Such a great deal!
Cindy,
We’re very happy to hear your love for the MightyFix!
I love this idea! I’ve been using glass storage containers, but for some reason the lids seem to loose their suction after a while! I’ve already been using stainless steel straws, so maybe this is next.
Also, I browsed around the Mighty Fix website and they have some really nifty stuff! Thinking I’ll sign up!
I’ve been loving my MightyFix subscription – I think I subscribed after you posted about it in the spring. So fun to receive a little package from them every month! Any chance those of us already subscribing can get the container? Thanks!
So glad to hear that! I’m not sure how it will work for folks who are already subscribed, but hopefully a container comes to your door sooner rather than later!
