five little things that made my week:
1. this cool mist.
{for keeping us a little better hydrated around here.}
2. these bath salts.
{a treat from james and just right for some pre-bed soaks.}
3. these tiny cozy things, waiting in a bag.
{because we’re ready.}
4. this paper package.
{but especially the lavender chocolate with lavender infused salt that was inside.}
5. this snowy ledge.

That cool mist thing is awesome. There are just too many neat things available out there that I would never find on my own.
As for the lights being left up all winter. I just said the same thing to my husband and asked him if we could change the colored lights we have out for white ones to stay up until Spring.
Ha! I always get itchy to take down the tree in our house, but I love the idea of leaving up the lights outside!
Erin, as I start to plan my own, I’d love to hear what’s in your hospital/ birthing center bag. Maybe a future post?
So exciting Sara!!! I have a post on our hospital bag in the archive (here!) that I actually just updated yesterday! Might still tweak a bit in the next few days, but that’s pretty much the jist!
Thanks for sharing this post! Good luck.
I would helpfully add, your own bottle of ibuprofen for after the birth, honey and natural suckers for a little boost and dry mouth and because sucking stimulates oxytocin. Also snacks like cheese, nut butter, crackers, apples. If you have a dog, a bit of dog fluff to sniff. Really! More oxytocin vibes. Oranges and tangerines to cut in half and sniff, great for nausea. And rice filled heatable packs, with lavender too. Great for under belly, or on back. And don’t forget to bring your doula!! 😉
I keep my tree up as long as possible, usually til February something when it starts to droop too much 🙂 And then it takes me even longer to take down the lights I have around the apartment. So yes, yes, yes to that!
Wow, that humidifier is so cute. Probably the nicest design I have seen in a very long time. I am actually look for a aromatherapy oil “mister” whatever you call them. To keep on my windowsill and to turn on before bed…
This little guy can’t be used with essential oils, but the company makes another version that can!
Happy first Friday. Love the mutha luva shirt, thanks for linking the site what a great mission over at Private Parts. I agree with previous comments, that humidifier is beautiful, such innovative design.
Oh my god – that Becoming Ugly article! Thank you so much for that!
That humidifier! We keep having a problem with ours getting moldy….is that one easy to clean?
We’ve only had ours since I gave it to James at Christmas! No problem yet (and it comes with a replaceable filter) but I’ll try to keep you posted!
I’m putting my Christmas lights back up! We have horrible lighting and very little space for lamps in this apartment. It just made everything feel a little cheerier and cozier. Thanks for including that article!
Ha! I’m ready for the tree to come down inside, but I love the idea of leaving lights up around the city! We need all the lights we can get!
Have you ever thought of writing about baby clothes and minimalism? I’m pregnant with my first and received a bunch of hand me downs and my husband and I sat dumbfounded at the mountain of clothing. We aren’t sure what we’ll need but this amount of stuff runs contrary to our more minimalist approach to life. Is the baby supposed to have 4 times what we do? You seem to be doing it well and the tiny cozy things image made me think you might have some more informed thoughts on this.
Have done! Check out the past posts in the Baby Proof series. I’m slowly updating the links in the posts to make sure they’re up-to-date, but I mention my philosophy on this in a few different posts in that series.
Thanks so much for the speedy reply! Babies weren’t even on my mind at that point so I’m glad I can go back and dig in your archives!!!
I’m accidentally superstitious about Christmas decorations in January. I’ve always been told it is bad luck to keep them up after the 12th day of Christmas, so I plan on taking my lights and tree down today. But now sort of inspired to keep it up a bit longer, or at least for one more night so I can spend my Friday evening drinking a glass of red wine rather than taking down a tree. Thanks for such an instant calm post as always!
We’re taking our own tree down this weekend, but I love the writer’s demand that we keep lights up on the streets!
The humidifier jar is amazing. The aesthetic is lovely.
Erin is this a cool mist humidifier? Love the look and size of it….how long does the water/vapor last before you need to refill it? Thanks!
Yup! I included a link if you want more details, but my unscientific recollection is that a full bottle lasts through about two six-hour cycles. (Shuts off automatically after 6 or when empty!)
Sending you well wishes in your last days before the arrival of your second little one. My second came three weeks early (and in just four hours!) so I missed the last weekend plans of cooking/freezing/girls brunch and foot massages, and also those last days of thinking, wishing … today, maybe? When little bitty arrives Faye will seem sooo big. Oh, it’s a precious time and may you find comfort in your home with the arrival of a baby and the expansion on love after what has been an emotionally draining time in this world.
that humidifier! i tried some brand before and they were a bit disappointed. i think i should try this one
Your blog. Your words. Your links. Your fight. Yes. Keep on dear lady. We need you. And I’m grateful for all your efforts & that you are Not shutting up.
A thousand times yes.
The jezebel becoming ugly article, wow. Amazing. Thank you. Can’t wait to share with my daughters. Comments on that article are really great too.
Last month I discovered the band The Brilliance. Have you heard of them? Their theme of peace really resonated with me through the Christmas season and still sits with me, moving into these cold January weeks with a new president. I think you’d like them! One of their songs simply says, “May the seeds of peace be scattered, birthing trees whose shade gives us rest.” Now I find myself singing it to my daughter while toweling her off after baths.
Another song wrecks me every time I hear it. “Run, Mary, run- that King wants to kill your baby son. Run, alien, run- the days of our open arms are done. Run, black child, run- That man has a badge and he has a gun. Run, schoolyard, run- we just gave that angry man a gun. Peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Geesh. So good.

That Jezebel article was amazing and terrible in the best way. Thanks for linking to it.
Zen Bunni is a total fave here! We just started carrying at the shop!
Lovely things 🙂 i love the mist.
Have a lovely day.
Just discovered your space. So nice! I’ll be reading. 🙂
Love the humidifier—but it seems the link may no longer work. Would you be able to share the brand?
I found it (http://elevenpl.us/product/bottle-humidifier/), but it seems to be sold out everywhere. 🙁
Sadly long discontinued!
