Along iron fences, crocuses.
Under fingernails, dirt.
In bedtime stories, fairies.
Across midnight skies, geese calls.
In salads, hardboiled eggs (tinged pink and green and blue).
At 5pm, sunlight.
On top of dressers, daffodils.
Around necks, bandanas.
On wishlists, canvas sneakers.
Under market tents, herb starts.
Curbside, puddles.
On windowsills, a spray of dirt.
In rain boots, sweaty toes.
Beside tree trunks, tender shoots.
On knees, mud spots.
In treetops, birdsong.
On grocery lists, spring greens.
Sometimes, unpredictably, as a quiet reminder that we don’t really know anything, a snowstorm.

Beautiful! I feel like you looked into my life right now and put into words what I couldn’t have. 🙂 Now, kindly share that wishlist of canvas sneakers because I’m going bananas trying to find THE one!
Haha! My thoughts exactly with regards to the canvas sneakers! Love this new series to start the month Erin!
I love seeing the “tender shoots” sprout from the ground this time of year. I always think fall is my favorite, dramatically closing a summer with bursts of reds and oranges. But then every year spring comes and it’s truly so beautiful to see so much green.
I’m thoroughly in love with this new series! The last point in April’s – spot on.
I always do say, “And there’s always that one time that it snows in April.” Ha!
Look at all that hope, all that potential!
Keep trying, keep trying!
I love seeing these subtle changes as Spring appears. I hope we’ve seen the last of the snow here in the UK too
Absolutely love the last line!
I love this series so much ❤️ thank you!
How to know it’s April, in Montana. On the brown and muddy ground, a fresh layer (6 inches yesterday!) of snow. On my shivering shoulders, an extra sweater because it’s 7°. On my freshly mopped floor, three sets of muddy dog footprints. On my table, a lovely pot of tulips daffodils and crocuses, bringing hope of real spring, maybe in May. Or June.
I love this collection. And to be sure: the snowstorms have been slapping us upside the head just when we think it’s safe to put them behind us. Mother Nature’s opinions are strong this year. 🙂
You said it so well!! A little mercy please, Mother Nature.
May I just say that I really really love this monthly series. My brain is already thinking of how I would write about May, Erin-style.
