On ankles, mosquito bites.
In vases, wildflowers.
At farmers’ markets, melons.
On sandwiches, tomatoes.
Out of closets, camping gear.
After dinner, popsicles.
On shopping lists, school supplies.
In the fridge, cold brew.
On the calendar, doctors’ appointments.
In sunscreen bottles, the dregs.
Bedside, novels.
On cotton totes, berry stains.
In hair, sea salt.
Around the table, cousins.
Overheard, vacation stories.
On chins, peach juice.
Between fingers, peach juice.Β
Down bellies and into buttons, peach juice.

Erin, I look forward to reading these each month! At the risk of sounding totally selfish, I would be thrilled if you compiled them into a book, perhaps with your best tips and tricks for holiday celebrating and the simple, special ways you mark and enjoy each season (as evidenced by this blog). I know you’ve touched on these things here and in Simple Matters but I’d love to be able to reference them altogether, to read through a calendar year of simple matters. Anyway, thank you for these sweet poems to greet each new month. x
You’re so sweet, Katie! Glad they’re bringing a bit of joy!
I second this, Erin! I so look forward to these entries every month – they are so beautifully evocative. They would also make a lovely calendar, although for selfish reasons, I would love to see them in book format too!
Katie, I love this idea. All of these poems each month, lovely photos, a recipe or idea for each month. It would be wonderful!
That’s a great idea Katie ! I would buy that calendar π
I agree! These monthly post just give me gratitude for the moment/month.
I think a calendar every year is a terrific idea!
School supplies! This was one of my favorite things about summer growing up. I would pour over my supply list for hours and picture all my fresh new folders and unsharpened pencils. I canβt wait for my little to start school so I can obsess over his.
This is so lovely!
Again reviving my disdain for my allergy to peaches! π
Agreed – these are SO beautifully done. A calendar would be wonderful.
Cultural interest: Why doctors’ appointments in August? Funnily I made two appointments for check-ups for my kids this month as well but is there some special background for doctors’ appointments in August in the U.S.?
Just the return to school!
Very nice, I support the idea of publishing a calendar!
For me, August is also the first apples with fresh honey, blueberries in full swing, you can still read all night long, this tea with friends in nature on Saturdays and the last bathing in the river
I didn’t know doctors’ appointments are a thing in August. But yeah, we have 7 of them scheduled this month π
I mean, they are for us!
These are so sweet and lovely! I just love reading them!
