Last week I spent a few days in San Francisco attending festivities taking place around the Remodelista book launch and holiday market, and generally cavorting with the “-istas” who live in California. On one morning, Alexa and I trekked to the wholesale flower market to choose florals (and fruits!) to scatter around the market. We went back to Alexa’s house afterward to prep the flowers and in the process, propped them in whatever spaces we could find to fill with water.
Here, a few photos of Alexa’s sweet space, because I’m feeling bored of my own and I figure we could all use a dose of inspiration for the impending new year. Agreed?
Artichokes, taking a bath on the stovetop.
Preserved lemons made by Sarah on Alexa’s genius makeshift marble countertop, made of three marble pastry boards, end on end.
I’m a sucker for white dishes. And it’s confirmed, I need a goat hair bristle dust brush. You too?
Pears. An assortment of lovely kitchen accessories. You see the trend? Beautiful and useful.
Alexa’s knife block, painted white. And leather drawer pulls to match.
See more from Alexa on her blog, Clear North, and of course, on Remodelista. And here, a gift guide for an herbalist, heavily inspired by lovely things spotted at Alexa’s.

This looks staged! So beautiful.
I really like the shelves and the white cabinets. My kitchen cabinets are dark wood and they're kind of dismal to look at; I wish I was allowed to paint over them but my landlord prohibits it.
I love how she created her own counter surface. Apartment countertops, including my own, are often so tacky or generic-looking.
Oh my goodness, Erin. I just stumbled across your blog off of Today's Letters. Love this space!!! I currently live in a studio apartment and let me tell you, it's been an adjustment for me! I'm so excited to continue reading through your blog and taking in all the tiny-apartment-advice you have.
