I’ve got steam coming out of my ears reading that paternity leave piece. I had postpartum depression with both babies. Limited (and partially unpaid) maternity leave and 5 days of paternity leave. How much better we all would have been with if both parents were home. It’s painful to look back on those days.
I’m so glad to have found Burnt Toast through you. It helps keep me on track and sane.
“No Time to Care,” left me in tears of frustration. I had c-sections for both my babies — the only surgery where you are expected to take care of a newborn once you go home. The first one was especially traumatic, since the baby came five weeks early and would have surely died if I hadn’t noticed he wasn’t moving. Husband was penalized by his boss for taking a few days for that one.
Oh to live in a country that cares more about children and parents after the children are born, rather than before.
Yes yes yes to the Halloween candy article. All of it. Which is also, btw, how much of my kids’ Halloween candy I let them eat. Anytime they want. Candy for breakfast? You got it. Candy with dinner? Why not. It’s an easy path to that amazing childish joy and excitement and it lasts all of two days. We don’t need to control every gd thing.
Same!
