We’re entering the glory weeks in New York. Yes indeed. Those spring weeks when you can actually feel the heat of the sun and the trees verily shout their exuberance with technicolored leaves and blossoms, they’ve arrived and I’m gobbling them up. Cherry blossoms: I will never get sick of you. Itchy eyes and runny nose? You guys, I could do without.
Confession: Until a few years ago I pretty much thought that seasonal allergies were made up. I know. I just didn’t get it. I didn’t suffer from them and I just didn’t understand why anyone would choose to stay cooped up inside during the most beautiful weeks of the year. Your eyes itch? What does that even mean? And then.
A few years ago I started getting itchy eyes and a runny nose in the springtime and early fall. Rudest awakening. I was miserable.
Determined not to let springtime allergies wreck my vernal enjoyment, I turned to herbal remedies to help combat the the shock of my new condition. Last week, my new friends at The Herb Shoppe blended the tastiest and most beautiful medicine I’ve ever had the pleasure to consume. I’ve been drinking it by the quart ever since and so far, so good. In an effort to apologize to every allergy sufferer who I ever doubted, there are details on herbs and dosages over on Gardenista! Godspeed.

Yes! This is the first year I've experienced seasonal allergies and it is not fun. Also, I've heard eating locally sourced honey is a good way to ward off allergies.
I didn't have allergies until my middle 20's. I had no idea what was going on because I was sneezing, my eyes were watering, I was getting skin rashes…it was an all of sudden allergy overload! I'll try anything to keep it at a bay so I'll check out these teas!! =)

I love that mug! what a brilliant drink I'm inspired to go see what I can find in my local wholefoods shop!
I have struggled with allergies my whole life, and am always excited to hear of a new successful herbal remedy. Growing up, my mom tried everything from local honey and garlic, to having me wear a medical face mask; so for a while there, I was like screw this I need drugs. But now I'm trying to find more ways to help my body combat allergies, and this will definitely go on the to-try list!
How you make such a mundane and sniffly topic as seasonal allergies so beautiful and atmospheric with these photos I'll never know… I am yet to endure these so I count myself lucky… until the time comes!
Remember back in the day when I had to sit in the nurse's office during recess because of allergies and you, Gayley, and Allie would play outside the window? Oh good times… Allergies are such a bummer!
ACK. *I KNOW!* (sorry!!)
Not fun!
I am looking into this! Can't believe I never heard of it! I, too, ridiculed my family members who moaned and groaned and closed my window in the spring… but then blooming redbuds left me "itchier than a beagle in a poison ivy patch," as my dad says…

I didn't get seasonal allergies until into my 20s and I was so confused in the beginning. Now living overseas mean they come on at random times (not just spring) and it still throws me off! I'd love for someone to make me my own custom tea – sounds lovely!
Awfully lovely, indeed! Good news though: you can make your own! List of herbs over on Gardenista!
does it have dandelions in it?
Even better: Calendula!
i didn't get seasonal allergies until i was 30. insanely itchy eyes have been my worst symptom. is your tea a custom blend, or one we can buy? also, i love your brewing system – can you list the source?
have you ever tried a neti pot? getting that pollen flushed out before it gets into your system can really help.
Hi Catie! I've never tried a neti pot, but I've heard all good things! There's a link to the tea pot in the Gardenista post, but if you're local, I picked mine up at ABC Carpet and Home!
That mug is amazing! Where did you find such a pretty item?
How did I not know about this?! Thank you so much for sharing! Ordering now…
What an amazing idea. I'll have to try this for my husband, who has allergies

Glad it´s working for you, that´s worth a lot! 🙂
As the first person mentioned, eating local honey really works. My husband and son have been greatly helped by this. You eat about a teaspoonful a day. But it has to be local. The point is ingesting small amounts of local pollen in the honey, which your body then develops a slight immunity to.
Thank you so much! I stopped taking my prescription allergy medicine last fall and was doing fine until a week ago – I really don't want to go back to drugs so this is much appreciated!
Gorgeous photos!

What a beautiful series of photos! Now I am craving a cup of tea. 🙂 I have never suffered from seasonal allergies, either, so I know what you mean. It seems unimaginable to "wait out" such a long-awaited change in seasons!
I live in Davis, California, an agricultural town. I develop allergies the first spring I spent here while going to college. It's the worst. I dream of the day when I'll be able to enjoy the outdoors without puffy eyes and a scratchy throat (and breathing would be nice too.) I'll definitely will check out this tea!
No way! Tea to prevent allergies? I am so on board. Our allergy season in Washington hasn't begun yet for me, but my husband has been miserable. Mainly because he does most of the farm work. I'll definitely be checking this out, thank you!
Take care,
Katie
Thanks for the tip. My story is exactly the same. Couldn't understand all that talk of itchy eyes and running noses, and here I am – with itchy AND running eyes. It's terrible. Makes me look like a total mess.
this looks lovely! if your interested in herbal remedies for allergies you should check out this product called AllerDx by Plantiva. it works like magic and its all natural! anyway, thought you might appreciate it! it really works for me!
I know exactly what you mean! I do/did that too, but my dad has the most atrocious cases of allergies (itchy eyes, the loudest AH-CHOOS, and sometimes even weezing and trouble breathing – it's awful), so I couldn't really doubt them. I am crossing my fingers every year to be spared of these nasty cases of allergies.
Looks delicious! I have to try that asap! My allergies are just about to explode!
great share – i can't wait to try it!
Treating allergies naturally is great. Especially when you treat the undelying cause (digestive issues, etc). Homeopathy, NAET and herbs work fantastic. No one should suffer through allergies. So much that can be done. allergies natural remedies
