I realize that not all of you guys are new moms. You might be quite seasoned moms. Or never-going-to-be-moms, or not-quite-moms, but I’ll hope you’ll indulge a little mothering story anyway.

Mothers of my imagination wear white nightgowns. Mostly because the mother of my real-life wears white nightgowns. Long-to-the ground numbers with eyelet on the top. Long-sleeved, no-sleeved, made of stretchy jersey or once-crisp cotton, my mom has a cedar chest full of them.

What’s the point of a long white nightgown, you ask? To feel regal in. When I’m padding around the apartment in the half-light of the very early mornings we’ve been having lately, it’s a treat to do it in something other than a ratty t-shirt and saggy pajama bottoms. I put on a long nightgown and I walk with my head a little higher.

Wearing a white nightgown while there’s a baby ready to stick an avocado-smeared face between your knees might sound like a foolhardy choice. But this is the way I figure it: the avocado smears are going to end up somewhere anyway. You might as well feel beautiful while getting your daily dose.

The brainchild of designer Sarah Hardie, the Fabrik shop includes a collection of ethereal and feminine women’s clothing and sleepwear, a delightful children’s collection filled with pieces in vintage-inspired fabrics and a whimsical bedding collection in the same cheery prints.

Fabrik clothing is designed in Austrailia and produced in a sustainable studio in Bali using eco-friendly and organic fabrics and dyes where possible.     I recently fell in love with nightgowns again as well. Being newly pregnant and well into Spring, I find them the perfect pair for my every growing belly and warmer nights.
    I looked through the whole Fabrik collection and wow, everything is beautiful. My favorite piece by far is the Kimono Robe in Meadow Print. I can picture myself throwing this on and toting around the house after a little baby soon.

    I have been gazing longingly at the meadow print kimono for about a month now! It's funny, I also have a strong association between motherhood and white nightgowns. I hadn't realized it, but the first thing I did upon realizing I was pregnant with my daughter is buy a white eyelet nightgown.

    Oh I do love a wee international giveaway! The nightdress is beautiful, and you're right about it forming strong memories. The feel of my mam's cotton nightdresses, the smell of her long dark hair tickling my face and the half sight of the simple gold chain she wore glinting in the darkness are what I remember from being comforted from nightmares, snuggled on weekend mornings and waking me up for school. Faye will love those nightdresses, avocado stains and all.

    Personally I love the muslin short sleeve pyjamas – it doesn't get particularly hot in Scotland, but something like that would be perfect for staying cool and comfortable on warm summer nights.

    I am smitten with the bazaar dress. And the black slip dress. And the maxi nightgown. I made the decision this year to transition to a capsule wardrobe, and in the process am hoping to see the vast majority of items that get added in during seasonal rotations.
