this week, a little something to take the chill off. we don’t have a fireplace in our apartment and sometimes on fall nights all i want is to hear the crackle of a few logs burning. for now, i attempt a similar effect by lighting lots of little candles. no crackles, but lots of warm glow. i try hard to find candles made without paraffin wax, and these soy candles handmade in oregon seem like they’d do the trick. what about you? do you have a go-to candle for chilly nights?

yes! i put tall pale-coloured candles in vintage wine or champagne bottles all around the apt!

I'm all about the soy candles too – it's great to get a recommendation! My local farmer's market sells some good ones.
We have to look for the good things as the days get colder to keep the spirits up. Cuddling and candles do the trick š
p.s. The stewed/pickled peaches you sent me were out of this world!! Thank you! I've been meaning to tell you that.
Candles do make a big difference!
Did you know they make soy candles with a "crackle" effect?
I've never heard of Soy candles but what a good idea!
i've been really happy with the soy candles i've bought before

I never knew about soy candles before. Im gonna go check out and see if the website ships to Europe as well.
Well, Vincent Kay's beeswax tapers from Swords into Ploughshares are my favorite candles for the table, but for tiny fires set up in rows and rows, you can't beat the tealights or the votives from Soulshine, handcrafted in Black Mountain, North Carolina, with natural cotton wicks and pure beeswax made by happy honeybees. Get 'em by the case from http://www.esoulshine.com! These are the ones we had at Caity's wedding. xo
Woodwick candles! They crackle! http://www.virginiacandle.com/Large-Jar_c_21.html
Oh my goodness, I know just what you need: http://www.etsy.com/listing/57224937/22-ounce-wood-wick-soy-candle-apple
The wood wick candles actually crackle for you. Mix that with a delicious fall smell and voila, it's a perfect setting!
XOXO
I'm sure the candle inside was the paraffin kind, but Simon made a jack-o-lantern with a pig carved into it for our BBQ and it is AWESOME and has been raising my spirits as it lights up the dining room.
we used to buy these candles with wooden wicks…they'd crackle just like a fire…wishing i could remember the brand. i bought them at a boutique in salt lake city long ago.
Oh yea! I love woodwick candles. Their crackle is fabulous. The scents are nice too, clean not chemical. I have two!

If you'd like the illusion of a fireplace Comcast cable has a tv screensaver with a fireplace that mimics a fireplace and even has the crackles. I've seen DVD's and CD's also that have the crackling fireplace for your tv or computer screen. Its a nice visual even if its not real.
