This post is sponsored by MightyNest, a company committed to sourcing sustainable products for healthy homes.
In Simple Matters, I write a bit about finding allies. In the search for simplicity and sustainability, it can be helpful to have a support team; people who have made it their business to do the nitty gritty research and have emerged on the other side with answers.
MightyNest is an online store that stocks a whole range of products designed to help people along on their path toward sustainability at home. In the quest for a healthy home and a healthier planet, they might be exactly the kind of ally you’re looking for.
The team there has developed a program that they call MightyFix. For a small monthly subscription rate, MightyFix sends subscribers a tried and true product to use in their home. The idea is that the product might encourage a change in habits. (And you know I can get behind habit shifts.) With any luck the month’s fix might replace something that’s not particularly sustainable or healthy in your home, with something that is.
It’s an opportunity to slowly but surely make shifts in your home, with the added benefit of being able to anticipate a bit of happy mail arriving each month. A set of wool dryer balls might replace disposable dryer sheets, for instance. A new water bottle might encourage you to ditch single-use plastic bottles forever. A set of Bee’s Wrap, like you see here, might finally replace the plastic wrap in your kitchen drawer.
The monthly product arrives with a friendly note detailing how to use the new item and a recipe to boot. The Bee’s Wrap fix you see here arrived with a recipe for honey-sweetened jam from Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars! As lots of you might know, Bee’s Wrap is one of the products that we’ve used regularly in our house for the past four or five years. It’s a simple, reusable replacement for plastic wrap and we’ve made the switch without ever looking back.
Beeswrap is made in Vermont from organic cotton muslin that has been coated with beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin. The heat from your hands can mold the fabric into place over a bowl of leftovers, or a block of cheese, or a loaf of bread. We use ours regularly to cover half an avocado, or to keep a bowl of washed salad greens fresh. Simple soap and cold water make it clean again, and when it finally wears out—they suggest a year, but we’ve used some of our sheets even longer—you can compost it. This month, MightyNest is offering a special opportunity for Reading My Tea Leaves readers to bring a bit of this magic stuff home, for just a few dollars, by signing up for MightyFix.
Here’s what you need to know about MightyFix:
+ A subscription to MightyFix is $10/month and each month subscribers receive an item valuing at least $10, and often more. With the code TEALEAVESBEESFIX you can get your first fix—a medium and large sheet of Bee’s Wrap—for just $3. (The code will be automatically applied to your cart with this link.)
+ Shipping on your MightyFix is always free, but more than that, if you want to add other things to your order—detergent or dish soap or sunscreen—you can add those to your order and have all of those things ship for free, too.
+ 15% of your $10/monthly MightyFix is eligible to be donated to your child’s school. More details on MightyNest school fundraising right here.
+ MightyFix products are always products that would be useful in any household; not for families with children only.
+ You can be a subscriber for as long or short as makes sense for you; there’s no mandatory subscription period.
Here’s what to do: MightyNest is offering RMTL readers a special $3/month rate for the first month of their subscription. That means that if you sign up for MightyFix today, you’ll pay just $3 for the first month and you’ll receive a set of Bee’s Wrap—a large and medium sheet—as your first fix. The fix will arrive to your door within a week or so! To sign up: head this way. (Offer expires on May 12, 2016 extended indefinitely! MightyFix is currently only available to US customers.)

I love how you talk about building up a support team. Such a simple way to look at it. You’re actually part of my team! I’ve always wondered where you got the bees wrap items and have been too lazy to seek it out.
I will definitely be subscribing 🙂 this is such a cute idea to have a new sustainable item shipped each month. Businesses like this make me hopeful!
Thanks for the referral!
Xo,
Caitlyn
🙂 Caitlyn!
Everything costs $ 10/month or $3 or $1…it’s exhausting after awhile. We need a better business model for getting people’s ideas to consumers. They could simply sell each product without the subscription. I’d rather simply buy what I want without that $3 fee. I pay enough of them already.
You can just buy these products if you prefer. If all you want is the products, that might be your best bet. But some people don’t want to deal with the thought process of figuring out what change to make next, researching which products are tools for making that change, and then ordering them. This is a service that meets a need for people who need that nudge to make another change each month without expending too much mental effort. If you would like to buy Bee’s Wrap by itself, you can find it on Amazon or straight from the maker at beeswrap.com. You’ll save money if you take advantage of the MightyFix deal. 😉
I really have not figured it out either….I joined and got wool dryer balls, I already have 2 sets & I want the bees wax wraps. I think I need to cancel & just buy on my own
Karen, so sorry to hear that! Definitely be in touch with [email protected] with any questions about your order! They should be able to help!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Mighty Fix. I’ve gotten 3 months so far (which started with the Bees Wrap – which I can’t quite figure out…) and have gotten some fantastic items. In February, I got these awesome cleaning cloths which I use every single day, and in March, I got reusable produce bags.
I have to admit, I get pretty darn excited whenever my Fix comes in the mail!
Erin –
We are thrilled to hear about your excitement for the MightyFix to arrive! This makes our day 🙂
Bees Wraps are made in the small town that I grew up and live now-Bristol, Vermont!
Bristol, VT is the best place ever with the best 4th of July! My friend Deb B is from there, I am sure you know her.
Such a pitty this is not available for shipping outside the US, I am really tempted by these Bees Wraps.
I know! It is too bad. A few brands make the bees wax wraps. I live in Canada and use Abeego. You can order online.
International shipping is tricky business! If you’re outside of the continental US, there are still a few options. Details here. Scroll to the FAQs.
Oana –
We can ship the MightyFix outside of the US to Canada and Australia — we just can’t ship it for free. Here are the details: http://mightynest.com/shipping
Please let us know if we can help. We’d love to get the Bee’s Wraps to you!
MightyNest
Thanks Annie – I live in Chile tough :(.
I have found the product on Amazon, so I am ordering it right now.
Thanks Annie – I live in Chile though :(.
I have found the product on Amazon, so I am ordering it right now.
Oana – sorry we don’t ship to Chile – maybe some day!
OANA, you might be better off having a friend ship it to you from the US. When merchandise comes directly from a company/retailer, you usually have to pay customs fees… I made an online photo album; I paid $15 customs fees for an album that cost me $10… just giving you a heads up!
Totally signing up- thanks!
Welcome to the MightyFix, Liv!
I’ve been meaning to try the BeesWrap for years now. I subscribed to see how that and the Mighty Fix work out. Thanks for promoting it, I’ve been trying to figure out ways to cut back on waste.
Thanks!
Rosena – Welcome to the MightyFix! We’re happy you’ve taken the leap to try out Bee’s Wrap!
I love Bees Wrap. My local kitchen store (oh my, I swoon just thinking about how much I love it there) started carrying it. As someone who lives alone, I have leftovers and things unused ALL THE TIME. I still keep some plastic wrap for some things (SUPER messy items, or things that I’m giving away) but love to use this when I can!
Very cool to see it featured.
I have been receiving my Mighty Fix for about a year now, and love it! I have also gifted the Mighty Fix to friends and family. I love that I can gift a 3- or 6-month subscription that brings joy over a period of time and hopefully inspires others to make small sustainable changes as well.
Lynda –
“Inspiring others to make small sustainable changes,” is our mission. Thank you for the support.
What an awesome idea! Thanks for that!
I’ve been meaning to replace all plastic wrap, etc, with bees wrap for far too long now. This was just the push I needed. Thanks, Erin!
Signed up and ordered a glass marinade jar to replace an old stained plastic one. Hard to find glass items are ALL on this sight. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome the MightyFix, Darenda! We think you’ll be happy to have the addition of bee’s wrap in your kitchen and the marinade bottle is terrific!
Sounds like a great company, and totally agree on how helpful it is to find people who share solutions to common problems (like you Erin!). I don’t agree however that a subscription service of random stuff, even if they are generally good stuff, fits into a lifestyle that aims to be sustainable and/or minimalist. I might already have all the reusable water bottles or produce bags I need. Aim to buy only stuff you have a pressing need for, I say.
Totally understood. Definitely not the route for everyone!
I thought about this for a moment, as well. However, as a newbie into the sustainable lifestyle, this is great for me because it’s a nice and slow introduction towards better options 🙂
That was my thought, too, Caitlyn. And for $10 a month I get stuff that I am like “oooohhhh… yeah. Cool. I never would have thought to buy this on my own. Now I can do XYZ instead of ABC…” 🙂
You could think of duplicate items as gifts to inspire others!
That’s exactly what I was thinking, they would make awesome gifts to set aside for those pop up occasions, like housewarmings or baby showers. I hate showing without a gift but can’t always buy one before the party so having a couple random items set aside, especially brand new ones, that also align with my views (and that I didn’t have to pay full price for?!?) seems like a win-win to me. That being said, I do get the sustainability/minimalist point so if it’s not for you, that’s fine too <3
I just signed up! How fun! Can’t wait to try the Bees Wrap. Thanks!
Welcome to the MightyFix, Summer Lily!
I was thinking along a similar line as a comment above that this subscription might be superfluous for some, but I think the benefit is for those who are just beginning to pursue a more sustainable and minimal lifestyle. I’m very new to this, and it’s hard to know where to start sometimes. A service like this could very well help those of us who need a little extra guidance. Like Erin says, a different route for everyone. It’s nice to know our options, and am always impressed with the brands and products you choose to promote, Erin.
Thanks so much, Stacey! Lots of luck getting started!
Awesome, I just signed up and can’t wait to get my first order.
I had an immediate reaction similar to Anne and Stacy’s above – though I totally get that this could be useful for folks just getting started. I also have pretty strong feelings about the amount of waste that goes into shipping packaging (I have so many feels about the amount of amazon packaging, other subscribe-able services like blue apron, which uses soooo much packaging that claims to be recyclable yet truly isn’t, etc…I could go on and on!), and also the carbon footprint related to ordering and having a single good shipped to me, rather than just picking this up at a local store or market. Erin – what are your thoughts on this? Does MightyFix address these important issues, especially since they seek to support a low impact and sustainable lifestyle?
Hi Lo: I’m so impressed with MightyNest’s shipping efforts! It’s definitely part of the reason why I partnered with them! They reuse packing materials when sending out new shipments—such that they actually warn folks on their site that they might receive packaging with stray logos or markings. If plastic, bubble, or packing peanuts are used, they’re never new, only recycled. My own fix arrived in a tiny reused envelope. The added bonus of free-shipping with the fix subscription also encourages mindful purchasing. If folks take advantage of the once-monthly free shipping instead of making multiple purchases more often than that, they’re also reducing the total number of packages that might wend their way into their lives. I think we all have to do our best, always. That’s what I’m doing and I’m sure that’s what you’re doing!
That’s awesome! Hopefully this is just the start of other companies using recycled shipping materials as well. Thanks for addressing my concerns, and for your blog and work! I truly look forward to your thoughtful posts for inspiration!
Of course! Glad you wrote in! And many thanks for reading!
Also, some of us don’t readily have access to many eco-friendly options locally. I’ll be having *somebody* ship stuff to me, regardless, because we don’t have stores like Whole Foods and the like around here. Certainly everyone’s needs will weigh out differently. 🙂
Thank you, Erin! I absolutely love this and am so psyched to try it out! I really appreciate all your suggestions and help for sustainable living. I need more allies!
This is so exciting and I’ve loved reading all of the comments that are also enthusiastic and addressing different concerns! My partner and I + dog live in a tiny apartment in Seattle and are constantly trying out different ways to save space and be resourceful + love on the planet more. I appreciate knowing about this service!
Quick question, will the Bee’s Wrap automatically come with a subscription or do we need to add that separately to the order?
Thanks again and I’m excited to get started! I always appreciate your thoughtfulness Erin!
So glad! Yes: the Bee’s Wrap is your first fix, so no need to add it to your cart (unless you wanted any in addition to the two sheets)! Enjoy!
Great program! I’ve been a member for a few months and have received a glass water bottle, the Bee’s Wrap and dish clothes. All excellent quality and being used daily!
Great to hear this, Karen! We do strive to send excellent quality products and hope for daily use. Thanks for being a MightyFix member!
Just subscribed, thank you Erin! Looking forward to it.
I just signed up, and sent the link to my sisters, mom and best friend! I’m also really impressed with the option to donate a percentage to my sons’ school. This subscription hits so many good points! (And I’ve been meaning to get that bee’s wrap forever, so it’s about time.)
So glad!
Thanks for sharing the MightyFix with people you love, Sarah! Thanks for the support 🙂
I already get emails from Mighty Nest highlighting different products they have, but didn’t realize they offered this Mighty Fix thing. that Bee’s Wrap sounds so cool, I may just have to go sign up. I hope I am not too late.
I appreciate that your sponsored posts align with your values. Some bloggers seem to be willing to partner with anything and everything.
Not too late! Thanks for the kind words!
YAY I have been wanting to try Bees Wrap for a few months now, this is the perfect way to start. Thank you!!
Interesting to me how heavily this Bees Wrap is promoted on various websites and blogs, yet not a single writer or reviewer can be honest enough to mention that the wrap has a moderately powerful scent that alters the scent and flavor of breads and cheeses. What a shame that even the revered blog world where we so often look for alternatives to the norm is not impervious to the almighty $$. I’d be way more likely to purchase the wrap if someone gave me an actual and honest review, not one that omits info to encourage affiliate sales and profits. It’s true that this is a great way to reduce the use of plastic and it’s a beautiful product, but it is by no means a complete replacement for plastic wrap (unfortunately).
Dani! Sorry to hear that you’re feeling like Bee’s Wrap hasn’t been properly represented in the blog world! Doubly saddened of course by your insinuation that my discussion of the product wasn’t accurate, or, worse, that I intentionally misrepresented a product in a sponsored post. Not the case, of course. The Bee’s Wrap definitely does have the odor of beeswax, though I admit it’s never bothered me and it hasn’t stopped me from using it wrap any manner of food item. I’ve never noticed that its altered the taste of anything. I’ve used this product in my house for so long that I suppose the odor simply isn’t something that I find remarkable enough to mention. To note that for the uninitiated or particularly scent-sensitive that it might be a consideration!
Excited to finally try Bee’s Wrap! Thanks so much for the code and info about MightyNest!
Really excited to try this – have been on the fence about the Beeswrap for a while (need to retrain by other half). Are the subscription products usually consumables or thing like the wrap?
Things like the wrap!
Thanks, Erin! Looks like historically they did some of the other stuff, and I was a little less excited about that (I’m picky and make lots of my own products now)! Looking forward to the goodies.
Definitely feel free to check in with MightyNest for confirmation, they’ll be able to give you specifics!
Posting back in case anyone has the same question – I’ve talked to the folks at Mighty Nest and they are lovely! They can add preferences to your account so that you don’t receive body products (and they don’t usually do that anyway).
Is there a place we can read more about the beeswax wrap and where and how the suppliers get their beeswax? I am a big advocacy for need and I know their are some eco friend ways to get the wax from need and there are harmful ways. I would like to know which way they get theirs.
I’d reach out to the Beeswrap folks directly! They’re lovely and will no doubt be able to answer any questions you have!
Instead of plastic wrap I put a plate over a bowl of leftovers. No waste at all. 🙂
Yes, of course. We do that, too!
This looks amazing and I have been trying to find an alternative to plastic wrap…wondering if the cotton is organic or GMO cotton?
Can you ship to military PO Boxes? We are moving to Japan in a couple of months.
Hey there: I’d check out the MightyNest shipping FAQ page and get in touch directly with the company to be sure!
I have a question. Live in Hawaii but travel to Continental US at least twice a year. I could just get them ship to my family eh? It would almost be life Christmas twice a year.
Sounds like that would work!
Your review was so good I signed up! Thanks!
How awesome is this! I had to get a subscription!
We live in the “back of the back of beyond”, so recycling and reducing waste is essential. Thank you so much for this…off to go subscribe immediately!
Alaska is part of the continental U.S., just not the contiguous lower 48 states. You might want to update your shipping information page to reflect that. It’s a bummer that your free shipping doesn’t include AK. Let me know if you decide to include AK at a later date and I’ll sign up.
Hi there: You should definitely be in touch directly with MightyNest about those concerns!
FYI, you might want to update this. They don’t send two of them, just one. I was disappointed.
Hi there: That shouldn’t be the case! Having someone from MightyNest get in touch with you directly! You can also reach out at [email protected]
Hi, Andrea – We do send 2 sheets of Bee’s Wrap in every MightyFix. What we changed is the packaging so now both sheets come in 1 cardboard sleeve (plus a clear label on the outside with this info). If for some strange reason you only received 1 wrap, please be in touch with us at customer service #847-905-0567 so we correct this error. Thank you!
Thanks for passing on this info about what looks like a great product to solve the “I don’t want to use plastice wrap, but I need something that works just like it” problem. As a Vermonter, I am doubly excited about it.
my oldest son (27 and living at home for *good* reasons – job assignment currently local… paying off loans TMI ) has been whinging about us using too many plastic bags for left overs. The Might Nest starter set of the wraps is going to be great. I will make him use them!
I sprang for the whole year because I’m worth it!
PS: my two cents on the whole contiguous states comment above …. I find this often an issue for sending things to my younger son who is going to University in Puerto Rico. People act like this is in another space time continuum. PR is part of the US!
I have been moaning to myself about using plastic wrap or bags every time I do it, but have not come up with a viable alternative. I again was thinking about this last evening and I am glad that there IS an alternative for folks. My problem is that I want to be better about my “footprint’, but I am a senior, and on a very limited income. Even though $10 per month may seem like a small pittance to some, believe me it is not–I have already given up cable and TV, movies and most meals out, etc.. Sorry, TMI and no more whining. I am just so glad that people are coming up with ideas to replace those things that my and other previous generations have polluted our planet with. I cringe every time I see someone with a box/crate full of individual water bottles in his/her grocery cart. Thank you for the info. I am intrigued(and jealous).
I signed up for Mighty Fix after reading your blog. I received the Bees Wraps and I love them. I’m looking forward to each month’s offering. Thanks!
Thanks, Elderberry!
This sounds really complicated. HOW MUCH is one sheet of this stuff (all costs, such as shipping and handling, included), and HOW can I get such?
I’m not signing up for a subscription just to get one or two sheets, even if I CAN “cancel at any time.”
Thank you.
Here’s a link to the Bee’s Wrap page on MightyNest: http://mightynest.com/shop/kitchen/food-storage/bees-wrap-set-of-3
Darn! I’m already signed up with MightyFix subscription. Can we still add on a couple more of these for $3? To ship with out current subscription of course. BTW you won’t regret the MightyFix subscription. I’ve gotten some great things with them. However, next time you send a seasonal product, please ship at the beginning of the season. We don’t use a lot of sunscreen here in the Pacific NW! lol
Hi there: This offer was for first-time subscribers only! Just in case the company doesn’t see this comment, definitely feel free to reach out to them directly at [email protected]!
I used the link above and it still charged $10. Is there a special code I need to use?
Yes! Sorry you missed that: it’s TEALEAVESBEESFIX. Good luck!
Thanks for your comment and suggestion, Rebecca!
This price for the Bee’s Wrap is for new MightyFix users, however you can always add this to your Fix!
thanks!
Not personally thrilled about using bee product. Although I am not technically vegan, I try to do as much vegan as possible. I would like to see a vegan alternative to the bee wrap.. Great idea and I like the message they send. 4.5 stars..
Can I give a gift of a subscription? If so, please advise how!
Thx much!
Kiki K
Hi there: I think that’s possible! You can be in touch directly with MightyNest—[email protected]—to learn more!
Hi, Kristi —
Yes, you can! Here are the details: http://mightynest.com/the-mighty-fix
Just follow the steps from the “gift it” button or call our customer service at #847-905-0567
Thanks!
Just got mine in the mail.
I had to open it up and the smell was gorgeous! I guess being a Waldorf parent for over 20 years now maybe affects my point of view. I LOVE this smell.
I saw the post from the person who found it off putting. I will monitor it but again. I am a tried n true Waldorf parent (I couldn’t bear to part with the beeswax sculptures).
Looking forward to the rest of the year!
Is the beeswax organic as well?
Hi Shawn, I don’t believe the beeswax is certified organic.
When they ship an item, do they tell you why it’s a good switch? I am thinking of friends and family who are probably saying, “What’s wrong with plastic?”
Thank you! I have been looking to try these beeswax wraps out. I took advantage of the free shipping the day you order thing too, and did a little Christmas shopping. I got several cute re-usable shopping bags for my daughter’s teachers and a beautiful dark green water bottle for my brother-in-law. Excited to give beautiful useful gifts!
(My comment may not make it. Although it starts off with a negative, read further to find the positive that this site is looking for when “Comments are moderated to ensure that this space is one that promotes positivity, community, and all-around good vibes.”)
No no no no no, because: http://www.globalresearch.ca/death-and-extinction-of-the-bees/5375684i
There’s an even easier way to “wrap” your leftovers: glass bowl with a glass dish covering it. Everything else? Use the wax paper from your cereal box. Or reusable containers of *any* kind. Reuse plastic containers that had sour cream, cottage cheese or spreads in them before. *Please* find some other way to wrap things up if you want to stop using plastic wrap altogether so that our happy bee populations can rebound into more happy bee populations.
Love all of these alternative ideas, too!
I was just thinking this morning as I wrapped my sons school lunch in plastic wrap that there HAS to be a better way! Then scrolling on Facebook saw this post! Totally appreciate the first month’s discount, free shipping, AND the 15% donation to my kids school! It was nice to see that there are already 7 other people donating to our school by using MightyFix! Signing up today, so excited! Thank you for offering these alternatives <3
I am so confused. Do you just pay the $3 and get the two free wraps and free shipping? Or do you pay the $3 AND pay for the wraps? The site says orders over $50 free ship.
Hi Tammy! Sorry for the confusion. This promotion allows you to pay just $3 for the first month of your subscription. You’d receive both wraps that first month. Shipping for MightyFix is always free! If you have further questions, definitely reach out to [email protected].
Just signed up – so excited for this! I’ve had my eye on bee’s wrap for a few months and can’t wait to give it a try.
I just signed up and it didn’t say shipping was free, only over an order of $50.00 so I hope it will be free for me to stay with the program. a few months ago I signed up with grove and I love their products. I want to get away from using plastic.
Thank you for sharing.
You can check in with [email protected] to be sure!
I tried to redeem the MightyFix code, but it “is invalid.” Help!
Hmm! Should work! You can email [email protected] directly for help!
This sounds like a really awesome and affordable way to make small moves to healthier more sustainable living. I can’t wait to try it out! 🙂
We have had it for a year, and everything we’ve gotten has been useful! The silicone food storage has been wonderful, and the bamboo utensil set came the day before a picnic…no more plastic pollution! Even Mr. Skeptical, aka hubby, has said its a good value
Hi, I must say I just ordered Mightyfix for this month because I love the concept of having more all natural and less other things that cause harm to ourselves and our environment. I did an add on but didn’t do it properly and was charged shipping. I reached out via email to customer service and was told NO, that I would not get the shipping for free. I then sent another email which was pretty blunt about the meaning of customer service and the shipping fee was returned to me. I appreciated that very much. Why did I even have to go there when I put my faith in what I thought was a superior company. I plan to continue my subscription and hope all goes better from here.
Hi Lynn,
So sorry to hear about your troubles. Definitely do be in touch with the company directly to voice your concern!
Warmest,
Erin
I have clicked on your FB ad 3 separate times now (the one w the beeswax wrap) to see where I could buy it. And each time I remember the click goes nowhere. All I see is a very long article that is not compelling and is too long for me to bear with to find out how to get this wrap product. I am not interested in other products or paying $10 a month for products I don’t need. Just wanted the wrap. Pretty bad marketing.
Sorry for your trouble. You’ve found your way to my blog, where I wrote the article about beeswrap that you mention. You can direct your note to [email protected] but a quick google search will also find you beeswrap on there site and elsewhere!
