today is cold in wilmington. the thermometer hit 16 degrees last night, and i don’t care what you say, that’s cold for this sunny clime. even the palms in front of our house have lost most of their green in the chill.
so this morning, with sunlight streaming into our bedroom window, all i could think of was a pot of steaming hot tea. i prepared my usual morning earl grey. but we turned down the heat in our apartment last night and so in the cool morning air, my piping hot tea soon became not so…cozy.
when i was little, my mom had a quilted tea cozy that she kept over our big 8 cup teapot (i think the old thing is still around somewhere). unfortunately, tea cozies haven’t always been the accessory of the hip and fashion forward. online searches show overwhelming support for quilted and knit varieties. the majority of these include fuzzy renderings of chickens, or cats, or other barnyard creatures.
but all is not without hope, i managed to find these adorable mug cozies at knitstorm and the tea cozies are at stitchella, where you can also browse a great selection of reusable coffee sleeves for the days when you forget to bring your own mug!

When you’re not using those cute teapot cozies to keep your tea warm, they’d make bad ass hats!
what is a reusable coffee mug? can you lile fill it up and then rinse it out? intriguing…i am reduced to pilfering thermoses from the various lost and found sections on campus…
umm… you know, those things that you don’t throw away when you’re finished with them? before the days of making everything disposable, you could, in fact, use, wash, and start again! having said this, your pilfering habit sounds gross. but i love you.
oooh, you meant reusable coffee sleeves…gotcha. you know the corrugated cardboard thingies that coffee shops put on their paper cups? you can buy cute little cloth ones to use instead!
