i’ve been thinking about brooches since seeing this beautiful photograph of fleamarket finds in girl hula’s shop {you can also check out her delightful blog}.
first, i think i have to say that i think the word brooch is funny. really, it makes me laugh. say it out loud, you’ll laugh too. also, it reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movies (if you haven’t seen it, you really should. it is probably responsible for far too many of my childhood wiles; also it explains my demand for pink and white striped wallpaper in the second grade).
so, inspired by this beautiful photo by girl hula, i’ve decided that putting together a little collection of brooches and pins could be just the thing to urge on spring and dress up  plain t-shirts and blouses. while i’ll be on the search for vintage beauties like the ones that girl hula stumbled upon, i’ve done some searching and have found a few on etsy that i think would be lovely too! here’s a small sampling. let me know if there are others that you’ve found, too!

these are such sweet lil brooches! i love the way they add a lil interest to any outfit or jacket.

(for the record – i looved anne of green gables when i was a kid. the word ‘brooch’ doesn’t make me laugh half as much as ‘bosom friend’, though. bosom. bosom, bosom, bosom. it’s such a weird word!)

Glorious. I will be going brooch-hunting this afternoon, so this post is quite the inspiration.

I love brooches! I wear them rather often because I have a skin allergy to metal and can’t wear much other jewelry, and a brooch is a great way to add some dazzle. I also get all of mine from thrift stores, you never know what you’ll find!

Love that first pick of all the vintage pieces. And can I just say that I’m never quite sure even HOW to pronounce the word ‘brooch’? it’s a weird one for sure.

But I love the ladylike refinement that comes with wearing a brooch–such a great and unexpected way to dress up an outfit!

I just LOVE your blog……everything is so well photographed, cropped and placed. The topics are charming. I love brooches as well. I have many from my grandmother and mother as they were very popular in the fifties and sixties. I notice Madeline Albright always has a brooch on her jacket or dress. Anyway, back to you…..I love when you do the five favorite things or show your favorite finds. You have amazing talent for clean, sparse, simplicity which really catches one’e eye. And is brooch – “broach” or “brooooooch”.
