this walrus summer reading cover has me thinking about the family car trips we took growing up. we always made the long trek to visit cousins in toronto and north carolina, and i swear we would transport our entire book collection, as well as that of the local library. cheers to summer reading lists! what goodies have you read lately?

I've read Prisoner of Tehran by Marina Nemat, and Memoirs of a Geisha… both amazing and beautiful stories.

Such a cute illustration. Reminds me of family summer trips in our suburban! I'll be checking back here for good reading recommendations. I need something new.

    I adore that picture!

I've pretty much been reading cookbooks out by the pool, but still chipping away at that beast of a biography on Beatrix Potter. I think it's almost time for something lighter 🙂

Just finished Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahren (I THINK that's how her name is spelled but I'm too lazy to look it up – forgive me!). So cute, especially for summer.

I am still trying to get through Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury" but I have to read it in small doses. It has the power to put me in very bad moods because it is so sad. Amazing, but sad.

Just, like, 2 minutes ago, finished 'what is the what' by dave eggers. It's a heartbreaking novel, based on the real life experiences of a sudanese refugee. Really, really good.

How appropriate, I'm reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac. Different then a family car ride– my most vivid memory of car rides with my family is the books on tape we would get books on tape from the library and listen to John Grisham, Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck.
    Good times.

Yesterday, I returned home from being at a friend's cottage for the entire weekend.

I read three graphic novels and started reading two books.

The graphic novels that I read were:

Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea by Guy Delisle

    Mom's Cancer by Brian Fies

Another whose title and author I cannot remember.

The two books I started reading are:

"Climate Change", a book that I got in a "Flick Off" promotional package.

"The Book of Negroes" by Laurence Hill.

have you read gilead by marilynne robinson? i'm reading now and it's one of those slow, rich novels. also a pulitzer prize winner. i just finished special topics in calamity physics by marissa pessl. it's a clever novel. and i *can't wait* to read the historical novel by jill lepore and jane kamensky–historians extraordinaire. see http://www.blindspotthenovel.com/
