park(ing) day.

while not generally thought of as very hospitable spaces for your average biped, parking spaces in cities across america were transformed on friday to become mini public spaces for something other than four-wheeled wonders. park(ing) day encourages folks to transform metered spaces into their very own public parks. so people rolled at the sod, cranked up the tunes, dropped a few quarters into the meter and had themselves a lovely day in the park(ing) spot. for more photos, check out inhabitat’s coverage of the festivities and go the official website. i’m thinking i’ll roll out my own picnic blanket next year!

I think it is the greatest idea! I saw many parks here in San Francisco on park(ing) day. Good fun!
