getting through winter.

bath

ok. i know i might be pushing it here. a photo of my bath tub? with candles? things might be getting a little too close for comfort. but consider yourself lucky–no shots of my own sudsy gams, right? and besides, this is a public service announcement. it’s for your own good. promise.

it’s january. i’m back in new england. it is cold as shit (sorry). and spring is a long time coming.

it’s time to rally. tactic number one: bubble baths and sugar scrub.*

if you’re anything like me (that is to say, human) winter time in cold weather leaves your skin feeling dry and tight. well, for goodness sake, scrub it up. hurts so good, is all i can say.

and take bubble baths. it’s cold out. it’s dark early. indulge. in the wee hours after everyone’s asleep, if you have to. light a candle. bring in a book. take 20 minutes.

*i use a scrub made with natural ingredients and essential oils…my body is a temple, etc.

**before last week taking a bubble bath in my apartment was an impossible feat. unless of course one wanted to share bath time with floating bits of tub paint and rust-colored water. but while we were off adventuring our landlord fixed ‘er up for us, and now she’s shiny and fresh. no bath tub? just scrub. i promise it feels almost as good. and no one ever said you can’t shower with a candle lit.

Ahh, one of the favorite bits about winter time, a hot bath never feels so good as when it's freezing flippin' cold out. I love the shot 🙂

we only have a tub so i soak almost everyday. so indulgent.
i don't take bubble baths much, though. sounds like a good idea.

I am feeling the same way about winter as of late! Our bathtub is really gross but I like the idea of a shower by candlelight! I will try it tonight! Thanks for the tip!

I hear ya. D gave me a wonderful scrub from L'Occitane for Christmas that I've been hording, but I should really break the seal on that thing. What also helps me from scratching my itchy skin right off is St. Ives shea butter and oatmeal body cream – I slather it on after every shower, and it makes such a difference. Damn you, dry weather!

I don't have a bath. What gets me through winter is tea, soup, books, blogs, and blankets. Oh and candles, I love me some candles!

I'd say this is a very good suggestion. I've asked bathtub to schedule me in for 7:00.

Your tub looks just like mine! Same shape, same orientation relative to the walls, same faucet and drain thingie; even the size and color of your tiles looks similar. My landlord also had to refinish the tub, right before I moved in (I saw the before and was so glad to see the after). I guess this style of tub must have been popular during a particular era in these old New England houses.

Nothing better than a hot bath. I indulge every night. My husband thinks I'm nuts. But, I lived a year and a half without a bathtub and now that I have one…well, you know where to find me 😀

I found a kit to refinish our bathtub… it was new (along with the rest of the house) in 1962. I might be brave enough to do it by myself in the next few weeks.

Needless to say, so jealous of your own new tub!

I'm a bath girl every season of the year! But winter is by far my favorite….nothing like a sudsy hot soak!

I'm completely with you (I know I can't complain, its summer here). We don't have a bath tub so I've been known to light a candle before I hop in the shower. I also sometimes light a little one next to me on the side table while I'm reading too.

….so with you on the hot candle baths and the scrubs…..pure luxury…especially when it's cold!!

…and yes….it has been brutally cold here in the south…..in an unusual kind of way……so ready for some warm sunshine!

    happy tuesday friend!

I agree that a hot bath after a long winter day is just the ticket!
We are still under a lot of snow here and when I get home ( dark so early! ) I get my son sorted and run up to a bubble bath to take the day away and esp. the chill! I love your idea about the scrubs – my skin ( feet! ) are so dry it is just icky!
Enjoy your new tub and candles!
PS do you use scented candles?

I am loving the sugar scrubs from flourishbathbody at etsy.com. They smell amazing, are all natural, and are just the ticket for relaxation and pampering.

I couldn't agree more! I take baths a few nights a week. They really help keep my skin soft and my mind calm.

Aaah, the bathtub with the candles looks so relaxing. I may just take a cue from your photo tonight and indulge in a little bath with a salt scrub!

I don't know if I've ever lived anywhere without a bathtub. I love my baths too, but I don't have any luxurious scrubs. Add to to-do list…

my favourite homemade scrub is olive oil and sugar… just mix it up and if you have any essential oils to add (or even cocoa for a chocolate one!) it's perfect… makes for a great moisturiser too! Only downside to the chocolate one is you have to make sure it doesn't go everywhere! 🙂

    oh and bubble baths FTW!
