bartered cheese flat leaf chives cheese and chives biscuits sunday morning
some of the best perks of james huffing it to the farmer’s market every saturday are the non-veggie spoils he comes home with. when he returns in the early evening, james brings with him a backpack filled to bursting not only with fresh produce, but also with cheese and bread and other treats from generous farmers eager for a trade. the cheesemaker who’d been eyeing the farm’s sunflower shoots since set-up at 7:00 am brings him an unmarked cheese. the breadmaker tosses over a loaf of semolina-sesame in exchange for a bagful of mesclun. there are promises of eggs next week.
i woke up on sunday morning and folded the bartered cheese and chives from the farm into the morning’s biscuits. rest assured, if any of those dairy farmers were around, we’d have traded a biscuit for cream in our coffee.
recipe for biscuits, here, plus chopped chives and grated cheese, and in this case a little bit of milk to make them sticky enough to just plop into the skillet. easy peasy.
