It’s not every day that you find yourself smack dab in the middle of a winter wonderland. Today James and I took a snowy drive through some of my favorite roads around his hometown. We found fuzzy-eared donkeys and woolly horses and cobblestone houses* tucked into a winter landscape to match their goldens and browns.
Aside from today’s drive, it’s been all tickling baby toes and identifying wintertime birds around here. And just to make sure we don’t go too stir crazy, I’m waiting on a pair of snow boots** to take on at least one snowy hike before we head back to the big city.
Until soon, chickadees.

Beautiful pictures!! That must have been one amazing little drive.
Love the pics and the story! We're currently in Western NY, too (also married a guy from here), loved the story about Chili. I also think Western NY pronunciation is absolutely hilarious. Chili = Ch-eye-l-eye.
Beautiful photos! I hope it snows more here. I live in Illinois, but the scenery is very similar to your photos just west of where I live: horse and farm country. I'd love to photograph it all covered in snow.
OMG, these photos are stunning. The stone houses are so picturesque. And you did an amazing job photographing the snow — the colors show through beautifully and don't look washed out at all.
i'm aching for a really good new york snow. thanks for tiding me over š
beautiful, calm, serenity. have fun out there, we just came back from a similar scenery and it felt so good!
Beautiful snowy photos! The snow falling looks so magical!
GORGEOUS pictures! i love the second to last one of the horse. beauty!!
omgosh! That house!! I'm in love. I've always wanted a cottage.
Such beautiful photos and what an interesting story about the cobblestone homes! I used to live in upstate NY and even went to school for a year in Rochester, and I did not know about these unique buildings. Thanks for the information and the lovely photographs. I can only dream of snow.

What a beautiful winter wonderland! I just ordered a pair of Sorels myself, it's that time of year! š
i feel like we shared the same visit. gorgeous photos my lady friend.
Isn't snow just the most beautiful thing? I'm happy we already had some earlier this month, because there's no sign of it anywhere on the horizon now. Enjoy!
Wow, was a magical drive. Your photos are gorgeous, capturing the beauty of winter.

Gorgeous! We had a blizzard here, right before Christmas. Most of the snow is gone, but it definitely made things beautiful for awhile.
Lovely wintry photos!
Those houses are perfect. They're totally my dream houses. And even more so, if they come with the ponies and donkeys!

Just a quick FYI – the youth Sorel boots are not made to be worn long term like the adult ones (they have a shorter "shelf life" since kids grow out of them). Note the tread and the lacing is different (and less durable). I worked at a shoe store and this came up frequently (adults who could fit into kids boots). I have an adult pair – 15+ years and going strong, they are worth the extra $
Hi! I ultimately did go with an adult pair! I accidentally ordered the wrong kiddo size and in the meantime decided to splurge on the adult pair instead! So glad I did!
