For the past month or so I’ve been working on a freelance history project with the Brooklyn Historical Society and a public school in the city. Together with a group of ten 4th and 5th graders, I’ve been exploring the history of this little corner of Brooklyn. We’re studying canals and factories and retractile bridges! Here, colorful shots of the Carroll Street Bridge for your Tuesday. Later today, more thoughts over on The Equals Record.

What a great project! The kids must have loved getting out of the classroom to go on a little sightseeing adventure šŸ™‚

This is great. More schools should do things like this. To work on a project and to actually get out and see it is wonderful.

Those pictures are beautiful, and that project with those fourth and fifth graders sound fun. Even though I don't want to be a kid again, at the same time there are certain things I miss. Class projects like the one you described are one of them, because they taught me to pay close attention to the things that I normally wouldn't have noticed, and they taught me to value them.

How wonderful that you're starting the new year with a history project! Glad you're enjoying getting back to your roots and passions. This sounds like a really interesting little corner and fun to be sharing it with the kids.
