Tip #69: In the summertime, take a cold shower.
You do this already, don’t you?
I’m a baby when it comes to being cold. I can handle a cool shower for the first few minutes and then I get all goosebumpy and before I know it, I’ve reached my hand back to the faucet to crank up the heat. Even on the hottest days, when all I can think about is cooling off, I still find myself under a hot shower. But lately I’ve been putting my short-term comfort on the back burner and thinking about the long-run.
When you take a shower in a tiny apartment the entire “house” takes on the microclimate of the bathroom. If it’s it hot and steamy in there, it’s only a matter of minutes before it’s hot and steamy everywhere. And with only one window, there’s no such thing as cross breezes for quickly airing the place out. Taking a hot shower is lovely, getting dressed in a swampy apartment is not.
So: Brave the goosebumps and take a cold shower. And if you’re like me, bonus points for all the water you’ll save.

I'm really good at cold showers after a workout or run but otherwise I'm a sissy like you, wanting to reach back or the hot water. I agree though, swampy post-shower home is no fun.
On a hot day it's better to take luke warm showers; the cold water causes the pores to close and you'll feel even hotter afterwards. try it! 🙂
Oh my gosh, so true! You can always tell when someone has showered in our place. Thankfully, San Francisco is a little less balmy.
I hear you! I'm all about the cold showers during this heat wave we are having in Jersey! xo

I love taking cold showers once in a while! It's the best feeling! Reminds me of being little, and running around underneath the sprinklers in the garden.

I'd never thought of this, I absolutely hate putting my make up on when it's hot & steamy in the flat. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I'm thinking about the water bill being lowered, and I'm mostly convinced. Mostly. Farewell, heated water.

After running my oven for 3 hours straight last night, my tiny apartment was rather hot. I tried to take a cold(ish) shower and like you, turned up the heat after about 2 seconds. I'll have to try again! It's just. so. hard!!!
My friend gifted me this peppermint lotion for my birthday last winter and I've been saving it for the summer. It really does help you cool down after a shower- just be careful about areas with sensitive skin because it's very tingly!

I did this this morning and it was glorious!
Thankyou for sharing! I will have to try this in our small bathroom.
All of your tips have been very helpful.
