year one.

August 5, 2013

central park central park pale male still mine Saturday was our one year wedding anniversary. And when the morning rain thwarted our plans for an afternoon sail around the harbor, we made new ones.

An afternoon movie at the Paris theater. This one. A film about grey hairs in a theater filled with them. The kind of movie that breaks your heart and puts it back together again. Comfort in flannel shirts and freshly milled lumber and marriage vows. Don’t watch the trailer, just trust me.

Next there was a walk through Central Park where James spotted Pale Male in the trees outside the Met. No doubt Octavia was nearby. Marriage of a different kind.

And onward to James Turell at the Guggenheim. From 5:45 pm – 7:45 pm on Saturdays, the museum has a pay-what-you-wish policy, and so we handed over a crumpled $10 and spent an exhilarating 45 minutes with every grumpy tourist in New York. It was better than it sounds. Seeing people get angry about light is good for putting things in perspective.

It wasn’t the day we planned, but it finished by being the perfect testament for why any one would be foolish enough to get married in the first place: even when everything else goes differently than you expected, you know you’ve got one rock steady.

Happy first anniversary! Time sure flies. Later this month my husband and I will celebrate our 7th anniversary… When we got married at the ripe age of 22, our visions for how these years would look were a lot different than they turned out to be. And that's not a bad thing at all. It's wonderful to have a partner to navigate "Plan B" with you! (Word to the wise: It often turns out much better than Plan A ever would've.) Keep celebrating!

Love the way you described your whole day! Speaking of museum exhibit's, I am sad I will miss the food exhibit at the AMNH. I think it ends on the 11th.

Happy Anniversary! And three cheers to marriage. After 20 years of married life I can truly say that, no matter how hard things get sometimes, it's still far better than the alternative. Hang in there.

My husband and I just celebrated our 15th anniversary. Ours is as fresh as the day we got married. Marriage like anything else is what YOU make of it.

I'm the luckiest girl in the world to be married to a terrific guy.

For some reason the Guggenheim isn't nearly as unbearable on free/paywhatyouwish nights as the Met is, it's almost downright fun. Maybe that circular lay out makes herding tourists so much more manageable? Congrats on the anniversary! That moment when you realize it's already been an entire year is just bonkers.

    Happy Anniversary!

I hate to break it to you but that Red-tailed Hawk in your photo is not Pale Male but one of his babies from this Spring. You can tell from its coloration and the fact that its tail feathers are still the brown horizontal barred kind and not the adult red color yet. šŸ™‚
