jump-start on spring.

violasWho can resist the pull of the pansy?

In just a few weeks there will be so much more that’s interesting at the nurseries and farmers’ markets, but for now there are cheery bobbing pansies and violas which are stoic in the cold and faithful harbingers of spring.

When a few pots costs as much as a bunch of daffodils that will die off after only a few days, it’s hard to deny the violas their role as the springtime welcoming committee.
violas So I bought nine little sections of earth to serve as springtime talismans. violas In our new garret apartment there’s a whole cornice ledge to plant and maybe not enough light to grow the best of what the season has to offer, but for now there are whiskered flowers to greet us in the morning, which is very much good enough for me.

Do pansies grow well inside? I am looking for indoor plants. African violets have been great, but im having trouble finding interesting varieties at the local nurseries.

And pansies/violas don't need as much sunlight as other annuals, so hopefully your ledge will be a kind home to them! Love your blog!
