of a kind: a spirited giveaway.

May 12, 2014

of a kind giveaway Blame it on my impending motherhood and a greater-than-usual sense that I need to be tapping into my inner Earth Mother and gathering bits of wisdom from the universe, but lately I’ve been looking for little signs of strength everywhere. When a new Reading My Tea Leaves sponsor, Of A Kind, approached me about hosting a May giveaway, I knew I wanted to share with my readers a talisman of sorts.

A pyramidal lapis pendant the color of the night sky seemed just about perfect.

Of course, if you’re not digging the talisman angle, just think of it as a rad little necklace that you can flaunt equally well with a plain white tee or your slinkiest, silkiest dress that needs a fierce pint-sized accessory.

In either case, to one lucky reader, we’re giving away an Elizabeth Knight Lapis Spirit Pendant. One of just 40 that were made, I like to think of the lucky winner as entering into a kind of secret society of lapis-wearing beauties.
of a kind giveaway For one of you sweet readers, number 24 of 40 pendants made.
of a kind giveaway Handmade in Brooklyn, the necklace is made from a pyramid-shaped blue lapis stone in 14-karat-gold-plated brass setting on a 14-karat-gold-plated brass chain.  of a kind giveaway The pendant measures Ā½ inch by Ā½ inch and the chain is 24 inches long. of a kind giveaway To enter the giveaway, subscribe to the Of a Kind Newsletter through this unique link (one of my favorite weekly reads), and leave a comment below, complete with your contact information and a note about how you’ve been harnessing a little extra strength these days.

The giveaway will close at 5:00 pm EST on Friday, May 16 and a randomly selected winner will be announced on Monday. Open to US readers, only. UPDATE: Thanks for entering! The giveaway is now closed. The winner is Lauren C.!

Bonne chance, mes amis.

Oh that's such a beautiful necklace! My birthday is this week, so that'd be a nice little present! Ever since the Boston Marathon, I've been struggling to get back into a regular exercise routine, but I've really been buckling down lately to get myself back into it; it takes a lot of mental strength!

This is definitely a very unique and special piece! I recently was given the opportunity to take on a promotion at work, technically my first real management role. A wonderful but scary opportunity because up until now I hadn't thought myself qualified for something like that. I gather my strength by faking it. I imagine the role and the person I need to be for this position and the rest has been falling into place. To contact me, my email is [email protected]

This necklace is gorgeous! I love how starry-night the stone looks. I've been setting my alarm an hour earlier (which is easier because the sun's been rising earlier, too) and stealing as many minutes as I can to get grounded before my day starts. That time helps me feel strong.

That necklace is fierce! These days I'm having to gather strength in a couple different ways. Reaching my one year anniversary with my bf hasn't been easy as the last couple weeks was fraught with arguments about the future and emotions that had been held back that came tumbling through. Also having to deal with what appears to be gallbladder pain means a whole weekend of unbelievable cramping and no easy way of relief. The support of my family is what gets me through it all.

While working full time, going back to school full time, being the "world's best mom" (per my mother's day card), and trying to be the best lover I can be to my other half I'm finding strength in reminding myself I am only human. No matter how much I try to be more.

Kissing my little boy everynight and realising I'm able to impact something so vital to my existance helps boost my inner strength greatly.

Lately I've been focused on building literal, physical strength. I've been hooking a trailer to the back of my bike and hauling my little one all around our suburb, I've been hiking (serious hiking, not cute-clothes hiking) almost every weekend, doing push ups and crunches whenever I have 10 spare minutes. It is HARD. I don't think I've ever been this athletically active in my whole life. But all totally worth it.

My lovely man that I want to spend the rest of my life with surprised me with a visit from his mother and grandmother over this weekend and they complimented me on my character, my hard work, my love for myself, and for their son/grandson, and called me honey with tears in their eyes when they left. Not having many positive female role models in my life, it made me feel proud and confident; like I could take on the world. [email protected]

Lately, I've been gaining strength from myself. That sounds strange, but it makes sense if I explain that I recently chose a different path than my family and friends expected of me. Iā€™ve overcome all the fears that once prevented me from doing what I wanted: the fear of not having a lot of money, the fear of not having a career that impresses new acquaintances, the fear of disappointing others, and, most profoundly, the fear of having to rely on myself. As Iā€™ve faced each one down, Iā€™ve learned that these fears no longer have a hold over me and that while I once feared being unhappy, I am happier now than I have ever been before.

I've just taken a gigantic leap into a new relationship with someone so similar to me, its uncanny! Its frightening to intuitively understand what he's thinking, but has the potential to be hugely rewarding. I like wearing little talismans, I draw strength from jewellery given to me by family members and also one special piece I bought for myself. Sometimes rubbing a little stone around your neck can help muster up some much-needed strength.

My heart is telling me it really really wants this talisman for its prettiness and added boost of protection and strength. I'm in my second to last semester of graduate school, and I feel worn bone-thin. I've been in the horrible habit the last few weeks of looking at my ever growing to-do list with a feeling of hopelessness, not believing that everything will be wrapped in time for the different deadlines. However…I was walking out of my little neighborhood grocery store 3 spring evenings ago and literally stopped dead in my tracks with the following realizations – It's May and I am walking comfortably into a spring breeze without a coat (after the record setting winter we had this year in Minnesota, going coatless IS something to rest thankfully in); I am carrying a bag with ingredients to bake my favorite cookies; I am about to get into a car that runs reliably and that is going to take me home to my husband; I am almost done with a degree that will help me reach and love others, advocate for education and literacy, and work in a space that is near and dear to my heart (master's in library & information science)… I haven't looked at my to-do list since without feeling thankful for it and my life.

Strength these days is: being still long enough to realize the world does not rest on me. No, despite what the day may bring, the world indeed still rests on shoulders stronger than my own. Stressful moments flee and I'm able to be more present, more strong, when I simply let go – and take the day one deep breath at a time. Strength is knowing that though you must inhale, you must also exhale, and let the world around you collect whatever deposits you let out. You must depend outside yourself.

Every night for the past couple weeks I've made a ritual out of taking a bath. I got some lovely lavender bubble bath and I pair it with tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils and just take a little bit of time to be by myself, silent and still. The necklace is so lovely!

At five months pregnant, I get a little more worn out than usual – but I'm trying to stay strong with sleep, yoga, long walks, and plenty of water. What a beautiful necklace – thank you for the chance to win!

Beautiful. I could use a little extra strength as I continue trying to conceive. I received some not so great news from my doctor today so I could use a sign that I am meant to be a mother!

Every day is a battle sometimes. I have to find strength in the fact that my children are becoming wonderful people and I'm successfully raising them on my own. They are my strength.

What a stunning necklace! I garner strength from Christ, and not clinging to what others think of me. kerrypamperin at gmail

Having my own little June baby growing inside is what gives me strength through these last four weeks of awaiting not only the arrival of our sweet Goodwyn girl, but of my husband who will be returning from an overseas deployment just in time for our girl's debut (if everything goes according to plan, of course). There have been many things that have given me strength throughout these nine months–the beautiful pink peonies on my window sill, for one– but my husband's constant support and the knowledge that our beautiful family will be together soon is what I cling to. Many blessings on your upcoming journey! dwyer.magdalen at gmail dot com

I recently had to relocate from Brooklyn back to my parents home in Phoenix, AZ for a major surgery. After a year of trying it out in the big city, I had to cut my time short to do a little recuperating around the people who love and care about me. Although I am extremely sad to leave the city I was starting to fall in love with, I know this time away will give me time to reflect and think about the reasons as to why I moved across the country in the first place. I am excited to get stronger every day and I can't wait to be back there again.

My job is stressful and very goal and deadline oriented. I get my strength from my family, it keeps me grounded and reminds me of how important my home life is. They always have my back šŸ™‚ [email protected]

Lovely blue things! I just moved across country but drinking lots of slow cups of coffee and walking around my old favorite places gave me strength to pack it all up and say goodbye. [email protected]

Recently found out we will not be able to naturally have a child after going through our second, and final [failed] round of IVF. I am finding strength in my relationship with my husband and finding strength and peace in the family that he and I have created together – child or no child. [email protected]

Remembering to take time for myself is a bit hard in a small 1 bdrm with a 10 yo. (sometimes you feel like there is no place to go to be alone). Her bedtime is my time. šŸ™‚

WOW… They have some very beautifully crafted jewels. I would be honored to wear any of them.

This is gorgeous! I would probably wear it every day!

Garnering extra strength recently by reading prayers with my newborn before he goes down for his morning nap. It's a sweet, snuggly, encouraging time for us both. Also trying to take a shower daily during his morning nap–haha!!

    Just signed up.

The way I've been harnessing strength is… My mom passed away early this month. My (firstborn) son was not even 3 weeks old at the time. It's been a really rough month but I've been keeping my mom in mind and being the best mom I can be to keep her memory alive šŸ™‚

Would love this necklace to commemorate this time and give me some extra strength.

Gorgeous! What a lovely giveaway – I adore Of A Kind. I signed up for the newsletter, too. I am going through a transitional period in my life, and I've had to stay strong in order to succeed. I'm loving where I'm at now and I'm glad I got over the hump!
