A quick post to say thank you, thank you for the incredible support you guys have shown me always, and especially since Simple Matters was released on Tuesday. I’m so happy that you guys are enjoying the book. It is such an honor to see it in your homes, to see you quote from it, to know that its message is one that you’re nodding along to, or sharing with friends. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I also wanted you to know that I have a new post up on Cup of Jo, complete with new shots of the our recently rearranged apartment! If you’ve been wondering how exactly we’ve finagled two bedrooms out of one, it has the answer and a bunch of other tips about how to thrive in a small space (with a baby).
Finally, a little reminder to local folks that I’ll be at BookCourt in Brooklyn tomorrow night (you can now even RSVP on Facebook!) Stop by for a cup of wine, a little reading, huge hugs, and good company. I’d be thrilled to see you there. xoxo.

Gracias!!!
Loved your feature on Cup of Jo! Now I’m binge reading all your back posts. 😉 Happy to have found you and can’t wait to keep reading!
Yay! So glad to connect. Thanks for reading!
Hi Erin,
I just wanted you to know how much I have enjoyed your blog, and now your book! My two daughters (16 and almost 14) also enjoy your aesthetic and philosophy. It is amazing how teenagers are impacted by the beauty industry, the fashion industry, and just a general push to consume and conform. I love sharing with them your little bits of wisdom, and I daresay it is a bit of a relief to us all that we can feel happier, calmer, and even prettier with a ” quality -over- quantity” approach. Too bad you weren’t up and writing this blog when I was a new mom, as it would have been just the ticket!
Thank you so much for this note. I’m so touched to know that you’ve been reading with your daughters! xo.
I just visited Cup of Jo. I must say, your apartment is gorgeous!! Looking through your photos makes me all smiley 🙂

Thank you! So glad to have you here!
Just ordered your book and am so excited to crack it open. Thank you for creating this thoughtful, inspiring space.
I saw your post on Cup of Jo! Loved your apartment, your bedroom in the living room! 🙂
Thank you!
I loved your post on Cup of Jo! My husband and I live in a small home and may well be moving to an even smaller one in DC later this year; so your suggestions were very helpful! I’ve loved reading your blog for the past several months and can’t wait to get my hands on your book!
Thank you! So glad to you reading!
I found your blog from Cup of Jo the other day and I’m so glad that I did! It’s beautiful and perfectly attainable. Thanks!! 😀
Just picked up the book tonight from my local indie bookstore, Boulder Bookstore. It is so beautiful. I am even enamored with its unique size. I buy very few books as I am a staunch supporter of our local library but I just knew this was one I wanted on my forever shelf.
Erin,
I Wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how much I love/learn from your blog. I live in Washington, DC and live in a one bedroom apartment with my husband. We are 32 weeks pregnant and your blog has been my go to resource for all things baby. Thanks for sharing all your tips, tricks, and philosophy on living with less! I just found out that my local/independent bookstore is carrying Simple Matters. I plan to treat myself and buy a copy tomorrow.
Thanks again for all you do! Congratulations on the book, such an exciting time this may be for you!
Love the post on Cup of Jo! I’ve lived in a 350′ apartment for the past five years, and I love it so much I can’t imagine having much more space, now. Your posts help me find new ways to love the space I am in, and it’s such a delight knowing others care about living well and small at the same time. A question, as well: I adore the top you’re wearing in the photos with the Cup of Jo post and I’m wondering where it’s from, as I continue to carefully cultivate my tiny wardrobe 😉
Thank for sharing how you reaarranged your apartment. I find myself asking “what would Erin do” when I think of what to buy for my apartment. i’m trying to think of the long term when choosing things to buy. I also try to have zones in my studio condo. Congrats on the book. I plan on buying it soon.
Thank you!!
I can’t wait for the book to arrive! Preordered my copy on Amazon UK and it is due at the beginning of February. Hopefully a bit sooner! Congrats! And I look forward to your post on Joanna’s blog!
I’ll be looking for your book in the library because, hey!, I’ve got no storage either!
Look forward to reading it and your blog. I can already tell I’ll love them both.
My copy showed up on Thursday and I have been slowly working my way through it since then. I am thoroughly enjoying it! The book reminds me so much of your blog that it is just a natural extension of it; smart, helpful and beautifully done. My husband and I have decided that we need to do a huge edit of our ‘stuff’ and I am hoping to pass the book on to him when I am finished. Congratulations on a great book!
Loved to get a look at the apartment with the bed in the main room. Would love to hear how you are dealing with kitchen smells in the ‘bedroom’…
Also I have been browsing your archive on tips. Will you do a post on storage at some point? You mention your closets from time to time. As a person who never had those American built in closets I am always wondering how much you can fit into it (and in my mind, I wouldn’t need any other storage space if I had them, which probably isn’t true at all 😉 ). I guess, I’m just interested in how much stuff minimalists have who do not play the numbers game and list everything they own and try to reduce it to a certain number, but rather try to live with what they need and not really much more without being to strict.
I think kitchen smells in studios tend to get overblown. We haven’t really had trouble with this in either apartment we’ve had where our bed was in close proximity to the kitchen. But here’s a post I wrote on the subject: https://readingmytealeaves.com/2012/09/two-fifty-life-in-tiny-apartment_19.html As far as storage goes, closest size varies hugely. Some closets you walk right into, some only fit a few coats and a shoe rack. I admit I’m so bored by the number games. I gauge my belongings on things I love, things I need, and things I have room for without feeling crowded. Not sure there’s another formula that makes sense!
Thanks for that. I must have missed that one. Any chance you are making a tips-list, it’s difficult to find everything just through the category…
No immediate plans to make a tip list beyond what I already have. But I would definitely use the search feature! A quick search of cooking odors, for instance, gets you this post directly.
