It’s a conundrum: your favorite worn-in button-up is just right for most occasions and just wrong for others. On a ninety-degree day in New York, I’ll admit that a trusty button-up is usually the last article of clothing I’ll reach for. But when the sleeves get lopped off? When the fabric’s swapped for something lightweight and breathable? Tune changed; a button-up’ll do.
Tradlands introduced three variations on their classic button-ups this summer and I’m helping to show them off. Among the recently launched basics, there’s a sleeveless option for sweltering days; a short-sleeved version for warm days, and a tunic-length option for days when you wanna cover your bum with your shirt. My words, of course, not theirs.
The Birch is a white sleeveless button-up made from 100% Organic cotton poplin. It’s crisp and easy to wear; a polished shirt for days when you’re sweating bullets but still want to look put together.
The short-sleeved Maggie Cameo is simultaneously sophisticated and relaxed in high-quality mid-weight linen. I love the oatmeal color. Perfect for eating cherries on your neighbors’ stoop, if you ask me. Like all Tradlands shirts, the magic is in the details and I love the thick pearlized buttons on this one.
The dark grey Herriot is a tunic length long-sleeved button-up made from super-soft Tencel. (For the curious: Tencel is made from cellulose fibers. But unlike similar bamboo or rayon fabrics, Tencel is manufactured in a closed-loop system which means the solvents that make wood pulp into wearable fabric get reused instead of dumped into the local environment).
The tunic is the perfect length to serve as a cover-up at the beach or to provide an additional lightweight layer for those blessed summer nights that cool off a bit after the sun goes down. Never been better for novice skateboarders practicing their moves after work.
The Herriot’s linen sister, the Martha Indigo, is for linen lovers. It’s the perfect thing to pack in a picnic bag for movies in the park (where, I’ll admit, I am always freezing as soon as the sun goes down).
