my week in objects (mostly).

August 26, 2016

five little things that made my week.

1. this tiny swim cap.swim_cap_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3207

{because we joined the local YMCA and we’re loving it.}

2. these paint samples. samples_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3226

{because you just don’t know ’til you know. and even then…}

3. these cast-iron hookshook_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3216

{because we’re making a few changes around here and we’ve got a need for hooks for tiny people.}

4. this little succulent. succulent_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3210

{because we don’t really get enough light for these guys, but we lopped off the top of a plant gone gangly and we’re starting over.}

5. these drying bums.babies_reading_my_tea_leaves_IMG_3231

{because the whole gang was desperate for a bath.}

other things:

smart homes for the elderly.

love this idea. historic house museums for e’er.

criticism’s sting.

why do we teach girls it’s cute to be scared?

    Thank you! Between this post and your newsletter, you’ve inspired me to stop stalking the YMCA website and pull the trigger on the membership. We’ve been needing a new evening toddler energy outlet.

    Just inspired to order those little hooks to hang up the little things that are scattered all over the floor in my little girls’s room. And those drying bums…ever so sweet. Thank you for the project inspiration to get working on a little order.

    Your family ( dolls included ) is super cute. Your daughter life is rather inspiring. Running on the beach, reading, bathing in the sink, being carried around town by papa, ….

    Great posts Erin! Speaking of focused, confident and courageous women, ” The Ascent of Woman” on Netflix is a super interesting and inspiring series.

    So, I don’t know if I’m an ignoramus or what but I just found out that the YMCAs in Seattle (except the downtown location) offer 2 hrs of FREE child care every day. You have to stay on the premises but for anyone looking to get some exercise in, wow! Is this true everywhere? Have I been missing out?

      Sorry, I failed to mention that you have to be a member of course…

      Ours has some amount of provided childcare, too! Such a terrific idea!

    Just a note, it would be awesome if you could put which are NYTimes articles, because if we don’t have a subscription, it eats up our 10 articles per month allotment.

        what browser do you have? this doesn’t happen on my comp 🙁 would be awesome though if you could add the NYTimes info for non-tech savvy people like myself who can’t check beforehand. maybe something like design mom who simply has NYT it brackets at the end of the link?
        Thanks for a wonderful week of posts!

        But not on your iPhone right? I’ve thought the same thing as Christie!

          Ah, I think that’s right. But I would say that if you guys are really struggling with coming up against the article quota each month, it might worth thinking about contributing!

    I didn’t know that! Thanks. I’m on my iPad now, but I’ll remember that when I’m on my computer.

    Love the dolls in the bath idea! I recently set my son up with a bucket of soapy water and a towel on our tiny patio to wash all of his wooden play kitchen utensils. It was a perfect summer water activity – he felt so important. I remember my mom ‘letting’ my sister and I wash doll clothes in the yard. We would even set up a little clothes line between trees. At four years old, I though it was such a special privilege!

    I need paint samples in my life. Choosing paint is like the hardest thing in the world.. I always love your pictures by the way, they’re great.

    Aw, yeah the YMCA! I grew up swimming there, too. Happy you’re enjoying it.
    Thanks so much for featuring our Cast Iron Hooks, Erin!

    I loved the link to the manhole covers article, thank you, but wished they had included at least a reference to the art/photography of Joseph Dankowski (some of which is in the MOMA and Smithsonian collections). I encourage you to google him and take a look at his photos of manhole covers.
