my week in objects (mostly).

October 13, 2017

five little things that made my week.Ā

1. this umbrella.

{and a rare moment of weather-related preparedness.}

2. these moody hydrangeas.
{for being even prettier all crisped up.}

3. this relocated diaper pail.
{because moving it to the other side of the dresser made all the difference.}

4. these play silks.
{in the colors of fall.}

5. this organza scrap.

{for muffling the door slams.}

other things:

native land.

inflatable luggage.

revive the ancient dream of knowing everything…”

worn in new york.

museums + snacks.

windows.

a reminder.

you are rarely presented with even a single good option.

the man in the hotel room is to blame.

    What is s play silk? Like a dress up thing?

      Kind of! They’re just colorful squares of silk for playing make-believe with! Faye uses them for capes, baby carriers, fort walls, picnic blankets, etc. etc.!

        Erin I think you said your mom made some of Faye’s? Do you know of good tutorials? I want to make several as a holiday gift project with my mother-in-law for my toddler. My google searches have been a mixed bag.

          My mom made my sisters and I a set of silks when we were little! Silk was too expensive for us, so she used a synthetic blend instead. We had those here for awhile, but they live back at my mom and dad’s house now so all of the grandchildren can play with them there. There aren’t many tutorials because they’re really just hemmed squares of silk!

    I don’t bring umbrella anymore because I always forget and leave it somewhere I can’t remember

    Lovely post, as always. <3 Strangely I also really like the look of those hydrangeas. I also didn't know "play silk" was a thing, but yours are in such nice colours!
    I really like that reminder post. Taught me that sometimes having more is not actually more! If that made sense.
    Have a nice weekend x

    Hi Erin! Do you have any tips/tricks for carrying for hydrangeas? It seems like mine always die so fast!

      Do you mean cut ones? I cut these ones from my mom’s garden, where they’d already begun their slow drying out. Once home, I have best luck putting them in a vase with a little water and leaving there until the water evaporates!

    Oh I love hydrangeas! Unfortunately my hydrangea bush is at the end of its bloom and has already began turning bare for the fall and winter months. I love the photos you shared — simple, but perfect.

    Oh the diaper pail! Ours is the same and always being shuffled around. For the last while its been stuck in our tiny bathroom beside the toilet and across from the potty. My sister has since given us one of those step stools that wrap around the toilet. We are hovering on the line between diapers and toilet use with our toddler and I feel like the bathroom has been taken over by white plastic objects! Thanks for the reminder that all beautiful spaces have pieces that are pure utility too!

    Lovely to find myself included in this post. The door slam thing is so simple but so pleasing! Would it be bad to buy some organza just to do this?

    Windows! What a coincidence that I caught up on this post today. The story is set in Somerville, near my house outside of Boston, and this afternoon, Mayor Curtatone came by to read the book at the library. I love The Snowy Day and that they drew inspiration from it, that’s been my go-to gift book for the little kids in my life and now that they all have it, maybe I’ll start giving Windows.
