my week in objects (mostly).

five little things that made my week.

1. this toast.

{because if you haven’t had cinnamon and sugar toast since you were a kid, change that immediately.}

2. this sweet scene.

{because i’ve been slowly making tiny updates to the kids’ room and they’re taking a while to feel complete, but this week, this peachy pillowcase felt perfect.}

3. this stone fruit.

{especially the doughnut peaches for being better than expected.}

4. these sweet guides.

{sent to us by meagan and filled with sweet ideas for kids (and caretakers).}

5. this colorful bouquet.

{for matching the diaper cover.}

    Hi Erin! Do you have a good source for child/toddler pillows? Thanks!!

      This one is from Coyuchi, but it’s really the same size as a standard pillow!

    Oooh, have you listened to the new Death, Sex and Money about manhood?! I loved it so very much. https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/manhood-now-live

    Oh, a mention of the Watts memorial in Postman’s Park! You’ve made my day. Thank you Alexa and Erin, that art historical nerd-out was much needed. (Watts is my toddler’s namesake, and his wife my thesis subject! An extraordinary couple.)

    Thanks for having the integrity to stick with sponsors that fit the morals you espouse. It’s been maddening this week to see people falling over themselves to promote Prime Day. Amazon employees are on strike, folks!

    Cait and I visited Postman’s Park when we went to London when O was so wee. Beautiful. And touching beyond description.

    the sources you reference! Thanks again Chris

    That article about niceness and sexism should be printed and posted in every public place and sent to every household in America (the recycling one too!). I found your site via Cup of Jo a few weeks ago and have been a happy follower ever since. I love your Friday roundup of links (have shared many with friends and family) and I admire your approach to living and child rearing (I’m 5 months pregnant with my first and have saved many of your previous posts for future reference. Your blog is now one of my favorites; every time it pops up on Feedly I know I’m going to get great food for thought. Thanks for the important and helpful content, and for using your platform to bring truth to light. These days seem daunting, but it helps knowing there are other good souls out there.

    Cinnamon toast must be in the air- it’s been revisited a lot at our house lately as well, and I just saw Penzey’s extolling the virtues of cinnamon toast too.

    I always appreciate your weekly beautiful photos and thought provoking article links! This week (I’m catching up) the article about niceness and sexism left me feeling conflicted. On one hand I agree wholeheartedly. Someone can be nice and completely sexist, and we need to address that. On the other hand, I was disappointed that the author’s litmus test evaluating whether or not someone is sexist seems to be solely based on a person’s view of abortion. The author argues that the only person affected by an abortion is the person getting the abortion, and therefore any restriction is sexist. For myself, and many others who view a fetus as a person, abortion impacts another life. I believe I can want to protect that life and still be feminist. I know this issue is messy, situations are complicated, and yes, the “pro-life” camp as a whole is terrible about loving and caring for people before and after the pregnancy they ask them asked to keep. (Also, I’m furious that this one issue helped elect a president who is so anti-life in practically every way imaginable.) I would love for both sides to come together for genuine, compassionate discussions about how we can make abortions rare (something I hope we can all agree is a good goal) and take care of each other. And I would love for feminists to be able to work together despite differing views on abortion. We need each other: we still have so much more to change. (Erin, thank you for being a safe place on the internet that is challenging, encouraging, and continually broadening my perspective!)
