As always – this weekly post of “objects” is one of my favorites!
Is it possible to share the origin of the wooden booster seat?
    Many thanks!

Secondhand! Old-school restaurant style! You should be able to find lots very similar at thrift stores/eBay/et cetera!

Would love to know more about the new booster seat! Thank you!

It’s just a classic, old-school wooden one like the kind you see in restaurants! Secondhand several times over, but just google wooden booster and you’ll find ‘em!

Aww love that you’re reusing the wrapping paper. Thanks for the inspiration! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks for the kraft tape reminder; I’ve been meaning to pick some up! I haven’t bought new wrapping paper in years; I save the gift bags that the families give us every year and keep reusing them along with fabric and other things I collect during the year. It’s so wonderful to not have this list of things to buy every year but have things already on hand.

Both cup of jo stories about raising teenage girls and boys were sweet but pretty cis-normative. I’m raising a trans boy so my experience doesn’t match either of those completely although of course there’s some things that are the same. Left me feeling a little sad. I love the article you posted about needing more women of color and other examples in motherhood. I so agree.

I know what you mean—such valuable advice for teenagers regardless of gender—it would have been so great to frame it that way!

i agree! it’s the exact reason i started my blog – not enough hipanic/latinx out there and kids/youth need to see people who look like them – i noticed it when i was younger and the fact that i still notice it now made me want to put my voice out there. hope you can check it out:

I just ordered the tape! Thanks for the tip. That company looks awesome. I want the PTA at our school to do that school supplies program…

I have a huge roll of kraft paper tape that you have to lick. No idea what its original intention was.

I’m not buying any wrapping this year, either. I love foraging my neighborhood during the MASSIVE move in/move out of students/residents/city dwellers every September 1st and the end of May. And the annual, shopping marathon at Goodwill. In Boston people leave their “goodies” on the curb with signs reading “FREE” all weekend. It really is an annual “holiday” here nicknamed “Allston Christmas”. Alston is a funky, hipster area in Boston where this silliness started years ago. It’s so fun and our neighbors and passer byers can be seen rummaging through cardboard boxes on the curbs to see what they may love and find a good new home for. I found a great roll of brand new, still in plastic (blah) wrapping paper and hid it away until Christmas.

I’ve been using old maps to wrap gifts. I pick them up from garage sales, but I’m still using a set I found four years ago. People love it, they recycle, and are perfect for all occasions.

Ooh. I ❤️ maps. Such a cool idea.

Marlena, old maps as gift wrap is a gorgeous idea. I’ll be keeping an eye out. I am using recycled brown paper as well but have picked up a rolls from op shops as well and had a stash of coloured paper from years past that I am trotting out for almost every occasion. With thrifted wool, ribbon and scarves, the wrapping looks just as enticing as the gift inside.
