make-believe: dinner party.

dinner party plans | reading my tea leaves

On my mind lately, hosting a dinner party for my friends in our tiny apartment without needing to also account for snoozing kids on the other side of a closed door (to say nothing a husband attempting to sleep on this side of it). I don’t want anything fancy, just me and a handful of friends, pulled up to a table with comfort food and dangly earrings and raucous laughs that ring out past midnight.

Also, these things:

Lavender colored pants to wear, because why not?

Honey-colored mules to glide around the room in.

The most beautiful beaded earrings* for dazzling my company (and myself).

A canvas smock with extra big pockets for hiding necessities.

A bottle full of beauty drops for sharing around the table.

Sparkling plumcot and purple basil shrubs to start.

Basil, burratta, and chili spaghetti to slurp.

(Homegrown purple basil included!)

(And a dash of Edo Spice for good measure.)

Ice cream to finish off the night.

And just to be courteous, flatware* enough to serve a small crowd (napkins, too)!

Who’s in?

In an effort to ground all of this make-believing in something a bit more down to earth, other places to direct our attention:

+ Needing some company of your own? The Dinner Party is “a community of 20- and 30-somethings who have each experienced the loss of a parent, partner, child, sibling, or close friend.” They screen and train peer hosts, and connect them would-be dinner guests who share a similar age and loss experience. The idea is that over shared meals in cities across the country, folks find healing and community. Join a table.

+ Concerned about the cannabis industry? Cage-Free Cannabis is helping the cannabis industry and consumers to engage in work that promotes equity, justice, and repair to the communities of color that have been most impacted by the War on Drugs and criminalization of marijuana. Erin- thanks for shouting out the Dinner Party, the organization was provided a life raft in the midst of profound grief. So lucky to have found it and through it, my table. Plus your imagined party looks divine.

Just wanted to say thank you for including a larger model in the visual round up! Those relatively small bits go a long way. Thank you for being so thoughtful and proactive.
