good news.

November 9, 2020

From a weekend of relishing good, good news.

Here’s to having a jumping off point from which to demand more and better. Here’s to exhaling. Here’s to the beauty of possibility. Here’s to children watching their parents dance and laugh and very nearly levitate.

These photos were all taken by my dear friend, LaTonya Yvette and at the risk of being an egregiously sentimental sap, I’ll say that I don’t know how I would have gotten through these last four years without the fierce love, the dry wit, the critical thinking, the righteous anger, the unstoppable joy of my friends and family. Onward, onward, onward.

It was so nice to have champagne with my neighbors this sunny Saturday! I’m definitely feeling better, but “nauseously optimistic” as they say. Still feels like we’re up against so much after four years of constant lies and toxicity. I really hope we’re turning a corner.

What a beautiful celebration. I know there’s still so much work to do, but it just doesn’t feel so insurmountable anymore. We can do this!

That cake is everything! Loved all your election posts, and cheers to a better era.

(Also happy birthday to James. My hub’s was on the 5th and he was SO hoping for a new president on that day, but alas 🙂 )

I am both very happy and also just not trusting it. I felt this way a bit in 2008, that something was going to go wrong before inauguration day. I spent about 2 hours just over the moon, and now I’m back to my anxious state of the world…. I’m trying to just let myself feel the joy I can feel now so I am better ready to get back to work on all of the things that need working on, but I’m kind of failing at letting the joy in.

I had forgotten that I felt this way in 2008 but yes exactly. Perhaps because it turned out ok then I am feeling more calm this time despite some trepidation.

I am glad that Joe Biden is in (but like another commentatoe above, I’m still a bit on edge), and I know we all needed to celebrate and let off steam, but a cake with “Fuck Yes” that little kids (many of whom can read) can see is just not the way to go. “YES” would have said it all. What’s the need for profanity? Please let’s try to elevate the next four years above the crassness of the last four and show a little class. I’m so tired of stupid, senseless vulgarity. It’s so . . .Trump.

Swearing is cathartic! It can function to release pain or emotion or elicit a particular response in people! There’s a big difference between occasionally using a vulgar word and engaging in destructive and harmful behavior like the current President. I’m happy to tease out that difference with my kids.
